Great detail. How about taking your own advice on taking my advice and read your post. You stated it is legal in the U.S. but state laws differ. No, you didn't answer my question of "is it illegal in ILLINOIS".
Scott
You have NO EXPECTATION OF PRIVACY while on a traffic stop which is the legal test according to the US Supreme Court. Thus you may record. But just as the disclaimer on the back of your LED state I would suggest you look into your local laws too. They may have something archaic on the books they would try to enforce which would require you to prove their law is in violation of US Supreme Court rulings on privacy. That's why I said what I said.

Your just another cop with a smart mouth. (must be the gun, makes ya feel good).
Scott
Smart mouth? How are these nice quotes:
don't want to be a cop because I don't feel like sitting in a car eating donuts and watching myself get fatter year by year.
I would stop all bad crime and you guys would have nothing left to meet your quotas but more traffic violations.
(shows how much you know about cars and style)
Go get some drug dealers and shut up.

Of course, some say illegal etc., check local laws, blah blah blah. I just told you my opinion, and you are not listening correctly.
Scott
I am listening correctly. You got stopped for them and are complaining. Then complain more because 3 others came to see the hubbub. Who cares if they didn't have any calls at the time and backed up their partner. Want to know why 3 extras showed, why not ask them.

Sure these lights, AND drugs are illegal. Which one would you rather prevent? Rest my case.
Scott
Both are illegal and if you didn't have your improper lights maybe they would have had more free time to look for dopers or drunks. It sounds like you have no idea how much stuff is found (dope, drunks, guns, warrants) on simple traffic stops....like yours. Get over it.

Hey, more smart-mouthing....your maturity meter is falling.

You are right about the people that pass these laws, it makes me wonder why laws in one state differ from those of another. Whats the difference, its like that treat states like different planets or something. You can do much more in indiana and then you cross into illinois and they are on your arse.
Scott
They differ because that's what our Constitution says.....government 101 sir. Let me quote from memory "those powers not specifically enumerated in this document are left to the STATES or to the people".

I would also like to hear you comment on the four cops to pull me over for lights thing. Guess its normal for a police officer to avoid something that they have no answer to. Either that, or they know there's a problem and don't want to admit to it.
Scott
The problem is you but can't reconcile this. We've had upwards of 5 cars at a simple call for various reasons, some of which are;
- We back each other up
- We don't know others are close and stop to lend a hand
- We're curious
- Some days are VERY slow and boring, a call breaks up the monotony
- We're entertained by the lunacy some people do to their cars
I wouldn't attempt to dictate what a stock broker does or how/why he does it. I wouldn't tell a firefighter how to fight a house fire nor would I tell a surgeon how to properly remove an appendix. I wouldn't tell a nurse how to start an IV properly or a carpenter how to build a deck. You picking up what I'm laying down?
Maybe if you rode with the police and/or received some LE training and got THEIR perspective you'd understand. Instead you'd prefer to be an uninformed armchair critic.

It's so funny how this stuff turns personal. I am proving a point. You HAVE a choice to either look the other way or pursue someone who is breaking a mild equipment law to someone selling drugs. YOU have a choice. Don't tell me you don't because you do.
Scott
Yes, and if we look the other way on obvious stuff the people who pay your salary can and WILL complain you're not doing your job. We have an obligation to enforce the laws the public is paying us to do. A mild equipment law is a good reason for a stop and further investigation for more serious offenses. If you get a fix-it ticket SO WHAT? Fix it and go about your business...no muss, no fuss.
