I have a 5 gallon can of Torco 112. Will this be good enough octane for my combo? I am running a TE-44 turbo with 25 psi, 50 lb/hr injectors, and stock untouched motor. The MON of this stuff is 109.5. Should that be sufficient enough? Last time out I ran Torco 116 and the car seemed very laggy and rich off the line. I heard that having too much octane for a given application will slow you down to an extent...is that true? something about the fuel can't ignite fast enough if you have too much octane.

What timing you running?

I run 25 psi. on my TA62 with about 100 octane and 21* timing.

Stock motor with bolt ons.

Pump gas and alky. with a splash of GT100 for peace of mind.

Low to mid. timing you are probably fine.

well I have a choice between my 23 degree extender chip which is designed for my alcohol injection on the street...OR i have a PTE 110 race chip (timing unknown) i think it's around 26-28 degrees...

can i still pull 11's with a lower timing chip like the extender and just up the boost like 27 psi?

You may be alright with your PTE 110 chip. (My PTE 110 chip has 26* of timing) I would start with 22# of boost and work it up to max boost without knock. FYI if you have 5 gals of 112 and 2 gals of 91, your octane is only 106!

You might hit 11's on a good track with slicks.

Ben up here in CT runs 12.1 at LVD which is at 2.1K feet and a very poorly prepped track with similar combo on pump gas and alky.

I would try the higher timing chip with the race gas at lower boost and work your way up as XLR8 suggested.

Unless it's a track rental then I'd try both chips with the extender first.

EGT meter would be helpful too.

at the very least get a knock sensor, if you can afford it go for a scanmaster, or better yet a laptop based scan tool like direct scan or turbolink.

if you have any knock bring the boost down untill you don't. I usually run about 2 gallons of 91 and 5 or 6 gallons of 110, thats something like 104 i think at up to 20# with no knock (if i have good air) It is possible for high octane to hurt the performance, the higher the octane the less flamable (thats not the word i want) it is, it requires more pressure (boost) to light it, as long as you launch with a few pounds it should be fine, people run 116 octane with no problems, so i'm guessing you woudl be ok
