Did a Racetronix DP install the other day. Buttoned everything up, put 6 gallons of gas in, turned the key and no fuel. The pumps did run but would not pump. I was at a loss. Everything is brand new, everything. The car was just running with old tank and pump.

Ends up the polarity on the pump plugs ( Brand new RT DP harness) was reversed. The pumps were running backwards.

There is a note way at the bottom of the dp harness add on the RT website but nothing in the box or harness indicating to check polarity. o_O LOL!

Hopefully this can save others some aggravation. In the future I will always check. Lesson learned.

Always wondered . . . if the pump ran backwards . . . . At what point (running time) do you get concerned about the pump life and performance?

Is there a quick way to check the polarity without putting the assembly in and seeing no fuel being pumped?

The pumps are marked positive (+) and negative (-) in the plastic casting next to the plug socket. Black wire should be negative.

Tim (Never Enough) has pic's. I'll get him to post em up.

Yes but here is the kicker. It's not necessarily wrong.

From Racetronix:
NOTES:

  • Depending on the purchase date of this system the in-tank harness may be wired for GSS340M or GSS294M pumps. Please double check the polarity of your harness vs. the pumps purchased. There are polarity symbols on the top of the pumps. If the polarity does not match (RED = + , BLACK = -) then the terminals will have to be reversed. Information on this may be found in our support forum.
  • This kit does not come with a manual. It is assumed that customers buying this kit have advanced technical skills. Support may be requested in our support forum.
The two pumps are different.

That is a great question. Perhaps Racetronix could answer it.

This happened because this customer purchased our DIY kit with GSS340M pumps many months before he decided to use our new DP SS sender vs. his factory sender.
This problem would only effect a small handful of customers should they chose to use our new DP SS sender with in-tank wiring vs. the factory sender.
Our new DP SS sender is wired for GSS294M pumps which have white tops. Our DPK-003 DIY kits that we manufactured last year where designed to work with the factory sender and GSS340M pumps (black tops).
Running the pumps backwards for a short period of time should not have any negative effects as long as the pumps are submersed in fuel.

This has noting to do with our complete DP kits!!!
Our complete DP kits are all bench tested and flowed so it is impossible for them to be DOA.

I'm following 2 threads for seting up Racetronix SS sending unit (FPS-G7) with a walbro GSS340M and hotwire kit. Walbro and hotwire have worked fine with the stock sending unit. Fuel gauge sender no longer works, so
I'm trying to fix it with th FPS-G7. I guess I'm one of the handful that needs to reverse polarity (pump triggers
but no fuel is pumped). Removed the sending unit and would lke to ask for more details
about polarity reversal. There are 4 wires inside the unit (in-tank) that are conected to the terminal that plugs
into the GSS340M. Should the pairs be switched? Or is there another procedure for doing this correctly?
This replay and other threads suggest this inormation is readily available. If so, could someone dirct me.
I have also launched questions to Racetronix, with no response, yet.

Looking for help,
DGC
