Racetronix Hotwire Length

I am in the process of installing my motor and all of the new parts I recently bought for it. I installed the hotwire the way the instuctions said to. It just seems that it is too long. Is this normal? It is currently draped over the drivers fender and touching the floor. Maybe I am over estimating the length since I don't have the harness and altenator wired up.

nope mine was too long also. oh well id rather have more than not enough. i just looped the excess around the vac. canister a few times and zip tied every foot or so of cord. if you zip tie the cord in the engine bay to a couple places like the cruise control bracket very tightly you should be fine but if it starts to sag you can just get more zip ties. i was too lazy to route it over the tank so i routed it under the tank, along the E-brake line, up the wheel well and around the vac. cannister and to the alt. i just made sure nothing was showing and i was good to go. the only way to see my wiring kit is if you take the wheel off. be sure not to let it touch any exhaust piping. it melted a section of mine but luckily not any of the wiring HTH

Thanks, that is what I figured. If it was to short everybody would be complaining about that. A little extra will never hurt anybody. Thanks for the vacuum canister idea. I was looking for a place to hide it that was out of sight.

its funny, after i wired it around the canister i asked my friend who is quite familiar w/my car to show me my hot wire kit and he pointed to some other wires before i showed him and he was like "dang that looks factory, no one would suspect that." what i do also is whenever im going to leave the car sitting unattended for a long period of time i reach under the back bumper and unplug one of the 2 electrical connectors. when i tried to start it unplugged once it ran for 5 seconds then wouldnt start. good theft deterrent as long as the thief is not familiar with turbo buick hotwiring kit hookup locations

That is the same deterrent I have used also. The orange connector on mine has the clip broken off. I just reach under and give it a tug. One of these days I am going to fix the clip. But you know how that goes. Why do it today, if you can put it off until tomorrow.

I put the Racetronix kit in my car. Ran the harness inside the frame rail from behind the rear wheel to about under the driver's seat area. Used an electrician's fish tape. Tie wrapped it to the brake lines and ran the harness all the way to the front of the engine bay behind the driver's side headlight, then followed the AC lines back to the alternator area. Was able to hide 90% of the harness and used up most of the "extra" length. Bolted the fuse holder to the back of the alternator, looks factory. Nice install.

I also had extra length in the wiring on my Racetronix kit.
I simply wrapped the extra wiring around the rear axle. I still had extra, so I switched ends, and wrapped that around the steering shaft and then wired everything up to the alternator.
It fits fine now.

Not really. Actually, I just pulled the extra back under the car, looped it a few times, wired tied it and tied it off the the hard lines coming up into the engine compartment behind the A-arm. I was actually thinking of simply cutting off a section out of the middle, shortening it, heat shrinking it and covering it back up with the supplied split wall tubing. I may do that eventually.

Racetronix makes the harness with a bit extra length (apx two feet) as some people like to route the harness differently.

Some like to route it behind the brake booster, along the quarter panel, under the washer bottle, over to the charcoal canister and up the A/C line to the alternator.

Cutting into your Racetronix harness will void the lifetime warranty.

If it voids the warranty, I guess I won't be shortening my wire.

I, for one, would rather have extra length on the hotwire than worry about routing it in just such a way that it barely reaches the alternator.

i had to drive a short distance with part of my HW kit hagning down and part of it got melted on the exhaust pipe but not the wire though so i just zip tied it in place and all is fine. this does not void my warranty does it???

No, but you should cover the exposed wire with a short length of loom or tape for added protection.
