Guys/Gals that are running with these do you mount them somehow to your dash?? What mod do you use when running down the track?? I am thinking knock, but I have a knock gauge that works good. Should I be trying to watch something else with the OTC 2000, between watching fuel pressure, boost, knock, and the track. ;)
I also noticed my car isnt going into closed loop and the OTC tell me I am lean at idle. The fuel is at 43# line off.
Any advice on going to the track would be awesome too, thanks.

Not sure..........I just punch in what mode I want for looking at TPS or IAC or knock. Is there a seperate "main" mode I have to enter into before going to those. I need to read upon it. Just got the thing like 2 weeks ago and have been working like crazy. TIA, Nick.

OTC2000 Modes

Hi Nick,

When you first plug in the OTC into the cig. lighter (Should allready be pluged into the ALDL). You press 7 enter, 7 enter, 2 enter. This will be as the unit prompts you to. Then you press 50 enter, for Knock Retard (which will be in the middle window display as "00") The Mode number will allways be the number to the far right. Mode 04 will give you 02's in the far left display.
Above the keypad there are sort of Idiot lights for Open/Closed loop, Park/Neutral, Lean/Rich, TCC (Torque converter lockup), Ac request? I forget if there were more. If you allready have a Knock gauge I would just watch 02 volts (Mode 04). I may have a Mode cheat sheet card somewhere. I could scan it if need be. Let me know.

I have the mode cheat sheets. I figured I should watch o2's but want to make sure there wasn't better to watch. I think I am going to find a way to temporarly mount it so I can watch it better at the track. I am going to play with it today. For some reason it keep say lean and open loop. Thanks for the tips, Nick.

Rich/Lean Open/Closed

The Rich/Lean should be boucing back and forth. There should be a mode for 02 cross counts. If this is low you may have a bad 02 sensor. Also once the car warms up it should go into closed loop and stay there, unless you have a chip with an open loop idle. I forgot to mention you press F1 then 1 to toggle between Metric and English. I like to Velcro the meter to the dash between the middle vents and the side of the speedometer pod. The meter cartrige sould rest on top of the Radio pod. A bad 02 sensor should set a code 13 tho? Hope this helps.

OK, now I am getting somewhere. I actually am getting the hang of this OTC 2000. I bought a JC chip used for my combo and my car doesn't have a MAT sensor installed yet. So, since day one it has thrown a code 23. Which is no problem. But, the check engine light has been on the whole time, so I went out a did a scan on the check engine light and now I got two codes. Code 23 and CODE 13!!!! Bad 02 sensor?
Is that causing the car to stay in open loop and say lean? Can I try to clean the 02 sensor or just go get one. Best to get from local parts guy?
The TPS and IAC still need to be set......they don't affect the 02 sensor at all??
I think I am going to velcro mine up like you said, does the velcro leave the dash looking like sh!t??
TIA, Nick.

Ok, just put new denso 02 sensor in. Reset the ecm, started car and let it run. No code 13!! So, that is all good. OTC still shows lean and open loop at idle even when car reaches 160ish - 180ish. Could this just be something with my chip. I didn't bother driving the car anywhere as I need to get some sleep, work nights. The BLM's are at 128 at idle. Pretty new to the tuning, so not sure what else to look for?? Everything seems good, the TPS and IAC need to be reset again. A little out of wack.
Is this something that is not normal.......the lean and open loop light on?
TIA, Nick.

It's possible your chip could be set up with "open loop idle" as some are. IF not, there are also closed loop timers, maybe that wasn't reached (but doubtfull).

i have the otc 2000 also. my car also switches between rich and lean constantly. from what i had read somewhere here, i dont remeber when. but the switching back and forth is normal. the computer is constantly adjusting the fuel needed while running. once second the ecm will read lean and add fuel and the next it will read rich and lean it out.
by the way i just installed aheated o2 sensor set up and it goes to closed loop so much quicker now. the idle is noticeably better too!

Ya, I had a bad 02 sensor connector...wire was loose. Ended up fouling my plugs out too
