Random Knock…
Just looking for some insight, I don’t race my car too often, when I do, I sometimes get a knock reading on my Scanmaster… the last time it was 5.2 when I hit the recall button. Later I would get no knock.. its very random.
Im running what I think is a safe tune about 15pounds of boost no alky. My scanmaster numbers seem fine. My fuel pressure is at 43.
Many Thanks !!

Wondering the same thing. I aswell have a similar tune as you. Sometimes my SM shows 4.3,4.8 on WOT the SM instructions say upto 3 is ok on pump gas. I live in canada and run on 94 octane.

Likely false kr as it picks up common stuff like shift knock, bad tensioner , dp issues. Add fuel to the chip or buy a few gallons of race gas to rule things out. Sensor tq? Like i say sometimes..forget one thing..check everything:).

When you recall the scanmaster hold both buttons to see the mph knock happened.

Sorry NY87GN I did not mean to hijack your thread. Not sure if it's ok to keep posting as I did not start the thread and am a newbie to the site.

Fast4Ward- I'm hoping its false knock. What is dp?(newbie). I as well was thinking about trying the race fuel, hopefully soon just busy with work. My chip is a Red's 93 and I use 94 octane so if I use some racing fuel it would be ok? The engine was built by Brian Lorenz about 18 months ago and the motor has only had approx 5000 miles put on it since so I'm thinking the sensor was torqued.

Rick I will get back to you with the speed at which the SM records knock in about a week or so, busy with work and the car doesn't get driven much.

Thanks.

DP = down pipe
race fuel will need a new chip set up for higher boost.

Are you both running a stock maf? If it is going bad or a reman that could be your problem.

Real knock escalates in intensity. False knock just flashes a number then settles down.
Punching it from a dead stop adds drama in diagnosing it.
Simple test is roll into it at 50-60 MPH and keep an eye on the scanmaster.

MAF is stock. How would I check to see if it is still good? Thanks for all the help, I will post results once I do some checking.

You need a known good. Oem is best. No remanufactured. Any other turbo regales around you? Maybe borrow theirs?

Went out for a ride this evening and as I suspected I believe it's just false knock. I would get small numbers on the SM 0.5.1.3,1.5 at approx 40-45mph although I did at one point get a big reading of 8.1 at about 60mph but it was on a big down shift, I guess this is ok??

If it's a stock style just assume it's bad.

IF it's false, it's OK in the sense that it won't grenade your engine..... It WILL, on the other hand, kill your performance by retarding you ignition timing from optimal (or optimalish).
