First off, just wanted to give some insight into the Alkycontrol operation.

I needed a pump, so I called up Julio, and he said he had one so I went down there. I was expecting to go to a shop, be sold a Shurflo pump out of the box with a seal or two changed maybe, and sent back on my happy way. Boy was I surprised. I got there and an employee of Alkycontrol was taking apart the pump that was to be sold to me, inspecting/changing all seals, resealing the pump, and then.......actually BENCH TESTING the pump to make sure it was outputting correctly. As it turned out, the pump was not spraying properly, and it ended up having a bad diaphram from the mfg. So they quickly diagnosed the problem, swapped the diaphram, retested, and it sprayed properly. Wow.

Next I decided I wanted to buy a controller from them. So instead of just getting me a controller off the shelf and putting in a box...what do they do? They hook up the actual controler they are selling me, to the actual pump they are selling me, and bench test them both together and make sure they work! I could not believe it.. a vendor that actually tests EVERY component before packaging for sale! There is NO wonder why Alkycontrol kits sold to the customer never have issues upon arrival.

So ofcourse..I install the parts in my car, and they work flawlessly. And why wouldn't they since they were bench tested before I even purchased. This is a company that actually gives a crap about selling quality parts, and customer service. Not to mention real laid back guys who like to shoot the breeze about cars while they are building your kit infront of you.

No I don't work for alkycontrol..no I don't get any kickback for posting this.. I was so impressed by their attention to detail and dedication to quality, that I had to post this to make it public and let you guys know the level of effort these guys put to ensure everything actually works before you get it in your hands. That coupled with the fact that they are local, I will not go anywhere less or reccomend anyone else for Meth inj needs. Thanks guys.

On to the question:

On the controller...if I set the Gain to 8 (max), is that basically giving the pump full voltage once the boost ramps up to max boost (I.E. 13.5 volts or whatever the car is putting out at the time)? Or is it still somewhat less than max? I'm just trying to understand if setting the Gain to 8 is the same as basically the same as just wiring the pump to a hobbs switch and having it come on 'full blast' (except at low boost where it is ramping up).

Thanks.

Hey Vijay.. your letting out the secrets

Got to keep the QC at 110%.

Now your question, in laymans terms.. The gain knob(blue) affects pressure rise directly proportional to boost rise. The higher the knob setting, the more multiplication the controller ill have based on boost input. If you picture a bicycle ramp mentally, adding gain will add more blocks to the back of the ramp than it does the front of the ramp making it sharper/steeper.. adding gain will make the system come on stronger and rise in pressure faster.

Now inside the box is a control labeled Initial. This one.. back to the bicycle ramp.. adds blocks to the front and back of the ramp equally.

So if you want a hobbs switch like operation, you would crank up the Initial.

Remember when I preset the controller the pump would do 250 PSI.. If I hit the test button on setting 8 we would see 60 PSI. The test button simulates the system activating(turnon). So turning the blue knob all the way does not simulate a hoobs switch, but make the system really aggressive as boost rises. May be a nice deal considering the 5 bar map and its resolution.

So turn down the initial a tad(to about 11).. turn the blue knob to 7-8 and that may get the results your looking for.

One last thing, I never had the chance to see your setup.. make sure the feed line is sufficiently large so we dont starve the pump. -6 or -8 would be plenty.

So.. That's why my new pump was all wet.  I agree with you Julio has a good product and GREAT customer service too. :) Thanks Julio!!

Guy

when i received my Alkycontrol kit i scratched my head over the sealed plastic bag containing the pump... in it were droplets of alcohol? water? tequila? oops we are back to alcohol...

so i happened to be talking to Julio and i asked him and he said very casually, "oh, that's just a remainder of water that we run thru the pump when we bench tested it."

life is partially about figuring out whom to partner with. we all make right and wrong decisions.

guess where Julio fits.

thanks!

Hey spins4 thanks for the thumbs up. We take pride in our work. I say if you cant take pride in what you do then go work at a flea market or get a job in garbage picku . When it comes to cars, high performance, etc. we take it seriously because we race what we build/sell. My car has alot of $ & effort put into it thanks to myself & friends. I am comfortable running these kits because I know for a fact they work! Now lets get that beast of yours on a track. Mine is hopefully gonna be on the track next weekend.

Thanks Julio and Wes.

Wes- I'm signed up for the track day we spoke about...so I'll see you guys there. :D

Were you able to find parking at the alkycontrol complex? What about in the parking garage? Did security just let you walk right in? I"ve never been so I want to know. :)
