Pulled a motor apart to freshen it up and replace non-turbo specific parts with the correct turbo parts...Cam has about 30000 miles on it and looks good, no wiped lobes and such and all the lifters look good as well...Should I put the lifters back in with the cam or should I go ahead and put new lifters in??? I did keep them separated so that I can put them back in the same lifter bore that they came out of along with the push rods/rocker arms, etc...Block is getting deck cleaned up due to burned up head gasket between #1 and #3, and bores are getting honed along with new cam bearings...

Freshly balanced turbo crank and forged TRW pistons are going back in...Along with the correct GM turbo headgaskets(not NA ones like what was in there  )

What is the concensus on this??? Re-use lifters or not???

if they are still in order definatly reuse them....or go with new cam and lifters.

you could put new lifters on it but since it has that many miles already id say you'd be taking a big gamble if you dont stick em back where they came from

be sure to use good lube on them that will stay there till enogh oil gets slung on it from the crank.

lifters

Use a sharpe straight edge such as a blade out of a utility knife. Check the base of each lifter. If it still has a crown on it, reuse it, if not, DON?T

Misery loves company!!!!

FJM568,
Sorry to hear about finding the NA stuff in your motor. And I thought I was surely the only one that'd ever happened to! If I hadn't had a head start leaking coolant, I probably wouldn't have found it until I drove over the crank! Pistons, rods and crank all NA pre-1981 junk! Are we having fun yet?!?

GM lifters for $48...I don't think so...double that and then yes, they would be GM lifters...

Before someone thinks I'm rippin on Jack, I did buy a cam from him for a different motor, so I'm on his side, too...But I seriously doubt those are GM lifters for $48...

You da man, Jack... :D

YOU ARE CORRECT, MY BADD!

Sorry about that, I mean the GM replacement lifters not TRUE GM lifters. Real GM lifters are around $150 Bucks. The replacement ones are just as quiet as the stock GM ones from what I'v been told.
Frank
