after reading jerryl's sig, i found that nice thread about Lower Control Arms (LCA's) and about boxing them or buying newer stuff....

Being that I am not going faster than probably 11's, mid....Can I get away with just boxing the stockers with some sheet metal, or will i do more harm in not buying some newer bars or arms? I hear poly bushings are best for higher hp and all, but what the heck are LE1's?

Any help is appreciated....As I am getting this thing back together, i really dont want to pull anything apart again, when I can get it done now!

Thanks all!!!

Talked to HR parts.
Box em and change the bushings, then add the rear stabilizer bar.
I will do mine in a few months so,.......... if you need yours welded at that time... it will be

lol...I can weld mine no prob, but what metal do I use? Do i just box my old arms and restock the bushings with the HR parts poly?

If so...cool...I just need some metal!!! lol

Thanks Jerryl!

Try kit PN's 0301 and 0302 for "boxing kit" at http://www.hrpartsandstuff.com/

Then try #0502 for bushing kit. Sounds like it is a mild carbon steel.

I'm running the Metco aluminum lowers with the ATR bar. The traction difference was amazing. Even if you go with boxed stockers, get the sway bar. It makes a huge difference not only in cornering but in straight line traction. I went from spinning from a 50mph roll to hooking at in every gear but first.

Boxed my own with if I remember right 1/8" steel. Installed new OEM style rubber bushings. Have been on a budget so did what I could. Anyway that with airbags on street tires (very worn bought used BFG DRs) I cut a 1.7 60ft last season on a crappy T&T night.

I should look into the sway bar you guys are mentioning too I guess.

I think you should be fine with boxing the lowers yourself. I went with the Metco lowers and ATR's giant rear sway bar and have been very happy with the results. I didn't do this upgrade until the car was getting sideways at 50mph.

I'm curious what an LE1 is too, kinda sounds like a 3rd gen fbody option  .

so....i think i am boxing my own at this point in time, for the cost of course...200 is kinda hard to come by, and I need a turbo (my stocker has a blown seal), and I am in need of a ton of other parts at the same time. So...i want to get poly bushings, and box my stockers...where do I get the poly's? Are they hard to do? and lastly, where is the is sway bar so I can get some pricing???

Use 1/8" steel for boxing the control arms. I used HRPartsNStuff'd Poly bushings, $140 I believe. YOu need to press in the new ones and the old ones can be beat out with a hammer. Make sure you put blocks in the end of the control arms when you press in the bushings, so you do not squish them at the end. Even though they are boxed the very end will still close up slightly if not blocked. If you can weld and use basic hand tools, these are easy to do yourself. I have already done them on the 85 TFS car and I am getting ready to do them on the 87 TSM car.
