** Rear End Gears Question

Found for sale GM 3.42 ring and pinion from a 1999 WS6. I want to buy them but don't know for sure if they will fit either of the two places I may use them.

1 - 1987 T-Type
2 - 1979 Trans Am

Can anyone fill me in?

I think they still are using the 7.625" ring gears in the newer stuff. What you want to put them in takes 8.5" ring gear. Nope, they won't work. -Chuck

I THINK they will fit the Pontiac? They used the 7 5/8" gears also, right?

79 still had 8.5 rears all f-bodys went to small rears in 82
