I have been using Mobil 1 since I bought my car 4 years ago. The rear main seal has always leaked.

Will it leak any LESS if I go back to regular oil?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks,

Joel

i think it would help, but what would also make a difference is the weight of the oil.

Nope, I don't think it will. Almost all leak a little. Very rare do you find a completly dry rear main.

I was told that syn oil will leak out of your motor faster than reg oil will. Don't know though because I still use it and mine leaks also.

My Rear main leaked for a while and I've always used Mobil1 syn..either 5W-30 to 15W-50 now. I got my local GM dealer to replace the rear main and have had no leaks since plus they will honor their work for 12mo.

As far as sythetic oil causing leaks: I bought a 120K T and stated using 10W-30 Mobil 1. It already had a leaky rear main. I switched to syn to clean up the engine and I noticed an increase in leaking at the rear main and the oil pan and valve covers started to leak as well. I ran syn for about 2500mi (I changed the oil twice during this time) and had the dealer replace all leaky gaskets/seals. The only thing that I had to return to the dealer for were the valve cover gaskets.
