Getting new rear tires...and trying to decide if I should go taller. Currently running 255/50-16 (26") MT DR's. So far car has gone 120+ mph but rpm was a little on the high side even with locking the converter. I will also be switching to a Currie 9" with 3.25 gears later this year so they will pretty much be the same as the stock 3.27's. I could bump the gears up but prefer to leave them as is for now.

Anyone run taller tires with stock gearing...and if so did you pick up or lose at the track? What's the fastest mph on stock gear ratio with what diameter tire?

Thanks,
Scott

I would prefer to run a 28" tall tire but can't find one that fits...What tires are you looking at?

BTW, my trap RPM's are 5450-5500 with the PTC 9" unlocked. What is your RPM?

Thanks Jason

going with a new wheels also 15"'s (either 8" or 9")...M/T DT's rear and M/T Sportsman S/R's font Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels . Bunch of options in 15"...295/55-15, 28 X 12.50R15 will be nice on a 9" rim. Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels

You could try the new M/T ET Street Radial II's 3794R P295/50R16 28X11.50R16 might be a little tight for a 8" rim but they say 8"-10". Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels

unlocked my billet TCS 9/11 was around 5700...maybe 5400 locked...need to look at my logs. Would like to get it to 5200-5300 locked.

15" wheels opens a whole new can of worms! What are you doing for the brakes?

I would try the 28" tall slicks. I wouldn't run DR's unless I had too. I don't drive them on the street anyway so who cares. How wide do you think you can run on the TTA without rubbing? What BS do you plan on running?

Meh, I get full traction on the tires I run now so I don't plan on changing. I'd love to run a wider tire though.

Weld RT series are designed to clear larger brakes...they told me I would not have any problems.

so far I can't complain about the M/T DR's my car has not yet spun at the track off the trans brake at 12psi. plus I do drive on the street. Trent is running ET Streets 11.5x28 on a 15 x 9" weld magnum w/5" BS and no problems. Look at his thread "Cabin Fever" in the TTA section from a couple months back.

Actually Scott, I'm Running E/T Drags on the rear 10.5x28", 9" wide wheel, 5" BS. I had the 11.5x26 E/T streets when I was running the stock wheels. They fit nice and were very wide. But the 28x10.5 are the same width at the tread on a 15"x9" wheel. Confused yet? Here is what they look like on the car.:)

Actually Scott, I'm Running E/T Drags on the rear 10.5x28", 9" wide wheel, 5" BS. I had the 11.5x26 E/T streets when I was running the stock wheels. They fit nice and were very wide. Oh...I'm definitely confused Trent...but I think that has a little something to do with age

I'm pretty close to placing my order...need to give Jim's a call ;)

I have been convinced to go with skinny's too ;)

Trent, so 11.5" fits on the stock wheel and doesn't rub??? Did it stick out past the rear quarter any? Did you run airbags?

Jason

Yes, 11.5"x26" ET Streets fit on the stock rims and does not rub. They didn't stick out on my car, at least I didn't think they did. That's what most guys are running on the third gen f bodies with stock rims.... 10.5"x26" fit the stock 8" wide rim a little better with less bulge on the sidewalls, but you give up over an inch of contact patch. I don't run airbags.

Scott, What rims did you decide to go with?

Those wheels and tires look awesome. Good job...
