ugh, this cant go easy can it? so, here is where i'm at:

i cant get lo/reverse in for the life of me. it seems like the output shaft is either to far foward or to far back, and it pulls something the wrong way, misalings another and then i have to rip everything apart again and start over. so is there a trick or a knack to getting that lined up perfectly so i can get it right the first time?

then i had a brain fart and i cant remember which goes in first; a steel or clutch? talking about for everything, reverse, foward clutch, direct, and over drive/over run.

and that little rubber seal thing (yes, i know that there is probably a more specific name for it.) that goes in the channels for the lo/reverse assembly... what is the best way to get that out?

and lastly is there anyway to see if the clutches inside overdrive are being applied or not? i just replaced all those seals and and figure out if it works or not....

thanks, any help is apperciated...

Well this may be a case of the blind leading the blind but...

Maybe this will help. You have to have someway of holding that output shaft in place until you can get the tranny assembled up to that snap ring on the rear sungear. They make a tool to do this or there is a way described on the gnttype.org site under tranny rebuild. The way I did it was that I had hacked together a stand out of some brackets, and a couple pieces of all thread. I was able to raise and lower the transmission on the all thread using the floor to hold the output shaft where I wanted it while I assembled that portion. I don't know what rubber seal thing your talking about. Is it maybe the reverse oil seal. If thats it mine came out with an easy out. Its also one of the last things you want to put back in, just in case you have to take this section apart again for some reason. Hope this helps.
