Regal Broken Hood Ornament

My 4 year old, was playing with the Hood Ornament on my T-Type and now the thing is just flopping around.
How do these things work? I can't see that anything has broken off the ornament itself, and there is still a wire attached to it. But its not obvious what is supposed to make it stand upright.

I've searched here and on the other TBs forum and can't find where any one else ever had this problem. When I search for Hood Ornament, I just get a milion hits about the 3.8 emblem.

There is a spring that keeps it tight. Not sure what the pic is of but they all work the same.
