Hey,

Did search and found some old post but nothing very recent.

I would like your opinions on remote starter brands for my '07 Dodge Caliber.
I do not need key-less entry or alarm just want the remote start. I really don't want to cut any wires either so adapters are preferred.

Who's using what and how is do you like it?

Something that's that new, your best bet is to buy a mopar kit for it. It will give you step by step install instructions and not just a box of generic wires with a list of wires for you to find and cut on your own. Your 07 caliber has a chip in the key which emits a signal that has to be faked in order for it to start without the key in the ignition. the mopar kit has a wire that wraps around the igntiion switch to broadcast the signal and fool the pcm into starting the car. Other brands may have it, i don't know. I installed a mopar kit in an 07 grand caravan and it wasn't too bad so I ordered one for my wife's pacifica. Haven't installed it yet. They have a second small key fob with one button to push twice to start the car. I have no experience with other brands except for the two that I had to cut out of the vehicles because they were butchered in. Correct install procedures are a MUST for reliability.

I will say that you could probably get one installed by someone else for not too much more than the list price of a mopar kit. had I not worked for a dealer i'd have never bought one.

X2 i work at a dodge dealership and their step by step instructions are very easy to follow

Thanks!

Thanks guys. I was thinking about that too. I want to do as little modificaiton as necessary.

Is the vehicle specific wiring harness they specify a plug and play or do you need to cut or splice into wires during installation? How long did the installation take?

I have seen posts on other sites that say the system is made by Code Alarm. Any idea if this is true and might be a cheaper option?

DEALER IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO!! I have been installing car audio and alarms for ever. It seems that the only cars we have problems with are any Chrysler Dodge and Jeep from 01 and up. Either buy a dodge one or have the dealer do it, but stay away from aftermarket.

no splicing necessary its comes with its own module and wiring harness that plugs into the factory harness

The one I did required the cutting and soldering of a couple wires but it was pretty straightforward.

If you bought the car from a dodge dealer go back and ask them if they will give you a price break on one since you bought it there.

X3 on factory

i wouldn't because it would kill your warranty. most factory ones do come with plug and play harness adapters so no cutting needed that i know of. the aftermarket ones are good if you don't care about warranty. the aftermarket ones you'll have to buy a part that replicates the key being in the ignition or you'll have to use a key installed in the receptical to have it start. also not sure if you could use a cut key from a hardware store as most cars these days have ignition keys that have a chip that tell the car the key is in the ignition. bites if you have only 2 keys but worth it if you like a warm car ready to go or cold car depending on the weather. good luck also those new keys with the chip aren't cheap either. I'd go with the factory one and have them install it just so you can keep your warranty on your car.

i put an aftermarket remote start on my wife's 07 truck but had to buy the adapter and she had to use the spare key to fool the ignition into thinking it had the key in the ignition. was a pain and most aftermarket car audio places have a 200-300 % markup on all accessories. i knew the part only costs 20 from the distributor they used which i was a customer of the same place too but closed my account. But just do the right thing and go the factory route. you'll come out of pocket alittle more but worth the piece of mind if something happens after you get it installed. good luck on it and remote starts are great.
