Put a Bulldog remote starter in my wife's 98 Jimmy about a year ago and it has worked flawlessly up until today. She remote started it today and the starter wouldn't disengage. She couldn't get the truck to shut off when she turned off the key. Pressing on the brake pedal which normally would shut off the truck if it is running on remote start wouldn't work so she drove it home about 2 miles with the starter still engaged!

Smelled that tell-tale sign of something electrical overheating when she got home and letting it sit overnight to cool off. (heading out to watch the Richmond NASCAR race at a friend's) So should I assume this starter is now toast? I got the truck to shut off when she got home and when I tried to restart it I got the same reaction an old school muscle car would have when hot with a lot of timing. Barely cranking over and acting like the battery was dead.

I've NEVER had a starter stay engaged after the motor starts so I am leaning towards a screwup with the remote starter module. I wired in the starter myself and I am confident that it was done properly. Anyone ever have this happen? First day of vacation and don't feel like dealing with vehicle maintenance!

The Tach sense wire is probably corroded - that would be why the starter wouldn't disengage, check that (or the remote start is confused or finally broke). No idea on why it wouldn't shut down, it should have when you hit the brake...might check that wiring too.

Unplug the remote start as well to reset its processor.

As for the starter, you might get lucky and it could be OK. You'll just have to try it. Either way, its life has probably been considerably shortened.

After letting the starter cool off overnight, it started right up this morning. No more remote starting until I figure this thing out.

It is set up on the tachless option, must have just freaked out for some reason. I am sure the starter now has a few less starts in it after that little workout.

Didn't feel like working on that thing today, actually got to take the GN out to a cruise this evening.

Looks like one of the relays got stuck on or the starter solinoid got shorted out...Check what brand relays got in there and try to switch it out with some bosch relays

Bulldog is one of those alarm/remote start systems you find at you local wallmart and probally won't find this in any quality install shops.
