I'm going to be painting my car, and the window being all the way down sticks out just a little bit above the door. Also near the inside of the door near where the window felt strip would be there is some metal that will need to also be painted, so do people remove the glass or leave it in?

I guess once the window felt strip is back in you won't be able to see that area, so I don't really need to paint it, just wanted some people's preferences.

The doors will be off the car so I can also do the jams.

Thx

I'm painting my doors next week. Take the glass, the felt strip, the mirror and the door handle off. In time you will see this is the only way to paint the door and jam.

Is it hard to pull the glass? I pulled the felt bumper things and felt strips but idk how to pull the glass.

Take the three 10mm nuts off of the studs. These studs are mounted to the glass and hold the glass to the rails. You will need to power the up or down to get to these nuts. Also remove the up travel stop. It is located to the rear and bottom of the glass. It is made of white plastic and shaped in a V. Held on with two 10mm nuts.

It's not hard to remove the glass it's just easier to take out the lower window stops and let the window drop down. As long as you can operate the windows with the motor or crank. Once the window is dropped down you can get to the screws holding in the outer belt molding on the door.

THIS^

The only way to do it correctly is to remove everything

How far does the glass drop into the door, should I be worried about it getting scratched?

I think I loosened the window stop at the bottom but didn't take it out, I'm worried about remembering how to put this car back together once done.

Well I removed the stop and all though it allows the window to go down a tad lower its not as low as I would like to be, here's some picture of the area I want to paint once I remove the rust. I think I can do it with the window this low but i guess I'll just prime it i won't put base coat under there.

This is the window all the way down and I have the top tapped for once I prime the door.

A crank window is not gonna go down as far as a motor window. Honestly if you have a crank window it easier to just remove the glass. Keep everything bagged up and labeled. Driver window / pass window. There are not that many parts.
