i was lucky enough to find a couple of each type I and II ign modules and coilpacks today at the yard. however, i cant remove the damn things!!!!! im tlaing about the ones on the 3.8 FWD where its mounted to the intake and the back of the valve cover closest to the firewall??? i can remove the one on the intake easily, i just cant even see, let alone get to the bolts on the back part of it. what do you guys use to reemove these? any help is greatly appreciated

If you're talking about the square ignition module/coilpak combinations like the ones on TRs, just take a 7/16" or 11mm combination wrench and locate the nuts under the mounting plate and remove the three nuts using the open end of the wrench. Then, cut the harness at the plug with dykes. I've taken hundreds this way.

thanks for the tip. i just couldnt seem to get under there today. i guess ill try again tomorrow. also, you seem to be pretty knowledgable in this area. what do you think of the type II ignition? is it worth switching to on my car, or is there no real benefit?

Supposedly, they work. I have a set sitting on my bench but I haven't tried them yet. I don't know how to test them. If you can get the original style, stock up on them and get your hands on a coilpak tester. Some of them are bad, either the coilpak or ignition module, but then many are good. Otherwise, you can test them on your car. A lot more work.

On getting them off in the yard, just locate the nuts with your hand and slide the open end on the nut. Once you break them loose, you can spin them off with your fingers. Just cut the harness out of your way before you start. It's a little more confined with skylark bodies, but full size are no problem.
