Sorry if this has already been posted i tried to track it down but didn't see anything on it but my question is. would i be able to safely take out the cone in my M.A.F sensors to cut down restriction in my intake or should i leave it??
thanx..

Leave cone alone. You can remove 1 of the 2 screens without affecting the drivability.
See ECM chip manufacturer for screen recommendations. Most are as above

leave cone alone ok thanx. i will take a second look at the screens.

The only way to really alleviate the restriction of the stock MAF is to replace it with a LT1 or LS MAF. Both out flow the stocker by a wide margin.

I was thinking the cone was only in the crappy aftermarket MAFs (not the crappy stock MAFs). I wouldn't touch it. You're pretty much guaranteed to go lean as hell if you remove that cone and don't kill it.

Granted, getting rid of the pressure drop right before the turbo is a good thing... but those stock style MAFs are flaky enough as it is, if you start messing with them and you're fueling will probable go all to hell.

on that lt1 maf wouldn't i have to do some kind of modification to my pcm to install the lt1??

No you use an item called a Translator. Very simple install. Plug and play. It's sold by many of our vendors. It allows you to use the new MAFs with our ecm.

Top of the page, click on Forums and scroll down to the bottom for Vendors.

I run an LS1 and ran an LT1 with no screens and have no drive-ability problems.

The only thing I notice is on initial start up for about five seconds it runs a little rough [may or may not be MAF related].

I'm not recommending to do so, but when I talked to Bob Bailey about an issue I was having with drive-abilty issues he said it shouldn't be an issue and that I might have a lean idle [which I don't] and that it might create a stumble situation when snapping throttle shut due to turbulence across the MAF.
