I want to remove my valve covers to clean and paint them. I never did this before. Can anyone give me intructions on how to and what tools are needed?

10mm is the size, you need a regular and deep. The passenger side is a kinda tricky to get back in. Just take your time. Make sure to keep track of which screws go where. When I put new valve cover gaskets. I took a couple close up pics with the digital camera just in case. Also when you put them back on just snug up the bolts good. Be careful not to over tighten them.

Disconnect your battery. You will hit the post on the back of the alternator when you take the driver side valve cover off.

It's more a need for patience than tools, really. :) For me, the driver's side was just a bear to get out because the wiring harness in the hard plastic channel had zero slack to move it out of the way. The passenger side was cake in comparison. I got some really good paint from Advance Auto that made them look like brand new aluminum. I will have to look at the can to see what brand and color it was. It wasn't "fake metal" or anything cheesy ... it made them look nice and gloss light gray.
