Replacing my drivers door window switch my friend managed to strip out the screw hole that holds one end of the pull strap on the door panel used to close the door. The screw now just pulls out of the door structure - the metal that the screw went into is gone. Any suggestions on how to repair the door structure? Or can I find a larger diameter screw to hold the door pull in the "HELP" section of many parts stores. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks, Craig

Most likely you will not find the larger diameter screw at the auto parts store, but you will be able to find it at a hardware store, Home Depot, etc.

i have the same problem, but mine were riveted in by the previous owner and the holes are now HUGE!!! cant fond any screws that big(and short enough) to work. i think im going to run a small bolt through and put a nut on the other side.....

Had that problem on my '85 GN. Used a 1/4-28 tap in the hole, and some 3/4" long bolts to solve it.

J nut

The way to permanently solve the problem is to go to the auto supply store and get a couple of "J" nuts. You know, the kind of nut with the metal clip attached. You'll have to make a small cut in the door to slip the clip through with a cutoff wheel. If you do it right you won't have to do it again.

Just drill out the holes a little bigger and push in the white plastic buttons used to hold your license plate on and then use license plate screws. It will hold everything good and :) secure.

I'm going to use some big fat sheet metal screws with a little Loctite.
That should work - until the next time. :)

i tried using the fat sheetmetal screws, but all of the fat ones were too long.....do they make them really fat and short? i didnt see any at the local hradware store or home depot
