Hello,Guys I was wondering if anyone here has a link to replacing the timing chain. As this will be my first time,an want to see what I'm getting myself into.

That link should get you going. You might want to make sure you've got someone that you can ask questions as you go. Also, don't replace the black "tensioner" if you are using a doulbe roller and pay attention to which way the oil slinger goes when it comes apart. It's a pretty straight forward job if you have a flat tappet cam and you don't mess with the pump. One more thing get a new cam button with a torrington bearing before you start.

If you are using a double roller timing chain you may have to grind this piece down.
I had to!
It was making contact with my chain and would have made a mess in there.

Pull or drop the oil pan so the front cover gasket will install and seal properly.

It's a must or it will leak at the front cover corners where it meets the pan.

Double the time allowed from what everyone tells you it should take. :p

I'd use a quality single row chain and steel gears with the tensioner for a stock motor, one of the good vendors should have one available.

Thanks guys! Well I tore it down to find my top gear rounded off. Here is a pic of it.Also where can I get a cam spring with a bearing in it.

I would recommend dropping the oil pan and cleaning out all the bits of nylon. Mine looked worse than yours, but bits of nylon were still in the pan and stuck to the oil pickup screen.

Yea already there. The only reason I tore it down was because I was doing an oil change an found the nylon in the oil catch an knew what that was, besides its easier to replace the cover with the pan off also flushed the oil lines an cooler, also doing the rear main.

Glad you caught it before it let go completely. I wasn't so fortunate.

So what all happen to yours if you don't mind telling me.did you nick a valve?

It was a high mileage car when I bought it and probably had around 1k myself on it when it let go. It let go at 75 MPH on the freeway. All 12 valves made contact with the pistons and bent half of the valves. It had 140k the original engine, and original timing chain unfortunately. That's how I learned about nylon.

I decided to have it machined and rebuilt. The good news is that I was up until 1AM last night dropping in the new engine! Can't wait to start driving it again.
