Hey guys, my 85 has been running extremely rich not sure what it could be almost fouling plugs instantly sputters backfires and then the car dies out where do I begin?????

What's done to your car? Is it stock or whats your setup?

Do you have a scan master?

Does not matter when or where you bought the car ,Far as mods to car most have no effect on the basic operation of the car, (big downpipe is not going to keep it from starting up) adding a intercooler is not going to make it flood blah blah and so on... basic's first any codes ? you can flash them out no tools needed just paperclip, whats your fuel pressure, start there then we can move on to checking other things.

Fuel pressure is fine

Maybe you have a vacuum leak, check and replace any old vacuum lines, make sure they're connected properly, you should have a vacuum line diagram on your radiator shroud. If not, you can find one on here somewhere.

:) lets get this thing fixed, way to many people just throw parts at these cars for no reason... Fine meaning it is CORRECT pressure at idel and if you pull vac line off it jumps up. No codes correct ? Don't go running around in circles. 4 out of 5 times easy when I fix one of these cars its something simple that the owner goes on and on he checked and its fine. case in point Dan's car been everywhere no one can fix it whats wrong ? broken wire in the harness... What did I say up front bad CCCI or bad wire in harness. spent 1,200 on the car for a free repair lol.

Gn4u2c....Getting an idea whether the issue came on suddenly or if has always been present can answer alot....how bout you let all of us chime in here to help the op instead of discrediting our questions. Just a thought. ;)

This is an existing problem I'm thinking I have a bad injector or two and the fpr needs to be upgraded from factory

How long have you had the car?
Where are you located?
Have you done the spring cleaning to the car or know if the previous owner had done so?
If there are any members near you, might be able to borrow a scantool or data logger that'll show if it's actually running lean or rich under the int and blm reading. Really need to have at least a scanmaster or some other tool that will display what these turbo buicks are doing all the time, saves alot of headaches and some money.

I've had the car since 2002 just recently had the time and money to get it up and running..... So this is all new to plugs fouled in minutes. What is mandatory for spring cleaning on the gn???

Under general turbo buick tech forum section, there is info in the stickies for new turbo regal owners, a very good place to start and read. Also here is the link to the spring cleaning guide, http://www.gnttype.org/maint/basics.html

Hope that helps you some, i am sure some others will point out other things but that link and reading the sticky section i mentioned will point you in a good info direction. Welcome to the turbo regal world and hope you enjoy your car.

I wouldn't get on the throttle too hard with your 85 until you ensure that you have everything in order and you have at least a scanmaster in the car to monitor what the car is doing. Even the non-intercooled motors in the 84 & 85 turbo regals can easily hurt themselves when stuff isn't running right, knock is not a good thing to see with these motors. A wide open throttle blast with things needing attention can lead to blown head gaskets very easily on the hot air motors, it can happen on the intercooled motors as well, but the hot air cars are more subceptable to being less tolerable to things before things go bad. There's quite a few board members here that have hot air cars who can assist you with your 85, don't be afraid to ask questions.

Just trying to cut through the clutter that usually accompanies these threads. Weather it quit running right last week or a decade ago still going to lead to the same problem being the problem...
If there is a vac leak the fuel pressure will not be correct. Maybe close but not correct. The fact it has been sitting for 12 years is some good info. However if the fuel pressure is correct you do not need a FPR.
you can put a noid light on the harness and test each injector to be sure its getting signal to fire, If you got that then you can do a manual ohm test on injectors if they all pass then you can pull the inj's and test for flow. If you have a cylinder that's always clean and one that's always fouled switch the injectors and if the problem moves you found it.

How old is the gas in the tank?
Which octane of fuel do you use in the car?
Like was mentioned before, vacuum line issues can cause you some trouble. Replacing the vacuum lines with new will help eliminate any leaks due to very well aged rubber hoses & lines. Verify your hose coming off the air filter box that feeds to the turbo and also the hose coming off the turbo feeding to the intake doesnt have any leaks, that can mess things up as well.

After looking over everything I'm pretty sure my injectors are bad they are original from factory and rusty looking. Any body know where I can get stock replacement injectors what psi are they?????

Just because they're rusty doesnt mean they're bad?!?

They're rated in lbs/hr not psi. I don't know what stock ones are rated but I'm sure you can find it on this forum.

Stock injectors were around 28lb/hr I believe....might want to verify the engine harness grounds are good and tight.(located just under the a/c compressor on the lower bolt that holds the acc bracket to the head...) loose grounds can wreak havoc on the ECM fueling and injector pulse...ask me how I know...:meh:
