RJC Motor Brace

Anyone using this? If so how does it mount and do you have any issues with it? It looks like it mounts to some holes that are tapped through the back of the block but from what I can see those holes on my block do not go cleanly through the casting so this could be a huge pita to bolt on.

Is the plate aluminum or steel? I don't care for the little rubber/poly stopper since something that small could wear out quickly and I would prefer to make something a bit more rugged that will last longer.

The top bolt is a pain to get to due to a body seam. The brace itself is made of steel as far as I know. The rubber stopper is pretty solid so I don't think it will wear that fast. It does come REALLY close to the brake line that comes out of the back of the proportioning valve.

It mounts to a spare hole on your tranny bellhousing (as long as its a Buick 200) The rubber bumper is very very close to the brake line that runs out of the proportioning valve. It's not uncommon to gently bend the line a bit to clear. I bought the brace when I noticed my downpipe hitting the A arm. It stopped that until I got the HR mounts to go with it.
It's basically a midplate and for the $$$ its a very nice piece.

Yea, me too!
I've never heard of any broken cases tho. Once I get my new Stage II installed I'm sure I'll be the first..

I just replaced my trans after the case cracked due to a failed mount. I have a new Stage II EA trans and would be EXTREMELY upset if the RJC brace cracked the case. It seems highly unlikely though since I also replaced the motor and trans mounts.

It works like a midplate...sorta. As long as its tight and can't move...it should be ok. If it has any slack or movement, the shock from it being able to move will crack the case.
As long as the rubber bumper is tight to the frame...you should be fine.

The case will be more likely to crack if you use a solid trans mount. If the motor and trans can rotate counterclockwise and the tail of the trans can't,the case is exposed to stress.

While a midplate stops upward movement on the drivers side,it also prevents downward movement on the passenger side. This takes the twisting stress off of the block. The RJC plate doesn't get rid of as much stress as a midplete because it doesn't prevent the passenger side of the motor from moving downward. The midplate is an easy way to make more power with a thin/weak block without cracking it,but you'd need to run soft engine and trans mounts.
