I was thinking of getting one (RJC power plate) but wanted to know if its worth it? My car is pretty stock just hooker exhaust and an old school ATR cold air intake going to look to see if I have a chip in it or not. But will I see any better preformance from putting one on or is it just a wast of money for my car right now? On there site they say some of the cylinders get lean and the plate fixs that. So would I see any gains from this or should I spend my money on something else? thanks for your help.

The first mod on a stocker would be upgraded fuel pump, hot wire for fuel pump and injectors. When you change injectors you must have a chip for those specific injectors. Then in order to make the engine breath better, get an improved cold air intake. That's only the beginning. :)

Check out www.gnttype.com for upgrade recipes.

Gains as in HP? No.
Gains as in being able to use the power you have without blowing up the engine? Yes.

You will not gain any HP from it. But it is a simple fact that under heavy acceleration, air wants to slam to the back of the plenum and ends up distributing unevenly.

Well in my opinion it's worth having. For the cost, it's not a bad thing to install. But if your car seems to handle boost well without knocking, then I guess you could keep the $60 for something else. The only reason I don't have one is because I'm tight on cash right now, otherwise I would have it installed in my fairly-stock car.

I have one on my car. If I where to ever get bigger injectors, should I remove it? Will the air to fuel mixture still be ok?

ok thanks for all of your help so no power plate for me just yet
I started my car when I was your age.

I recommend getting these items in this order:

1. Scanmaster, Direct Scan or Turbo Link. I think they are all around $250.
2. Fuel pressure gauge
3. Boost gauge
4. Hotwired HP fuel pump
5. Adjustable regulator
6. Adjustable waistgate
7. Chip

These items should get you low 13's on street tires and pump gas. Add race gas, more boost and some sticky tires, high 12's are attainable. Of course you have to learn how to tune it. When I first got my car I think I was on GNTType.org 2 hours a day. Ask questions when you are not sure.

Last year I ran mine with 65# injectors and 30 PSI. Time is in my signature.

Heay MadMike, The nice thing about rjc power plate is it allows you to tune the engine as a whole. Without one you have to tune to the leanest hole. You will have a hard time finding anything for these cars that will help across the board like equalizing air flow, and on top of that they are inexpensive to boot. I try to do things once and dont "spend" money invest it,, in your car. Just my opinion. Love to see the younger crowd in the mix, best of luck.

I spent last weekend installing
a) hot wire kit for Walboro 340
b) RJC Power plate

Between the 2, KR's dropped to almost nil on stock injectors.
I'm not sure which one contributed the most, but I could not
be happier with this setup, now.

That's the one downside to doing more than one mod at once, can't tell what helped or hurt you. Obviously both play a part preventing knock though. I have all my fuel system upgrades done, and if I really hammer the gas, I can still get my car to knock. I've been wanting a power plate for a long time, but as cheap as it is, I keep coming across other situations that require money. I'd like to get one installed and see my knocking less severe though until I can afford an alky kit. Maybe soon...

i try to read as much as i can about these car and this site really helps out alot when it comes to asking questions about then so i would ilike to thank you all for your help. hopefully one day i can bet that viper in the garage sitting next to the national. ;)

I try and talk eveyone with a turbobuick into either getting a rjc power plate or a hemco upper plenum.
All my cars have the power plate except for the green car, it has the hemco because i took the shiney stuff off it to install on my grey T.

With the crappy gas we have today, and the oxygenated fuel in the winter here in KC, anything i can do to get less knock i praise it.

If you can only run 15psi on pump gas with 20° of timing and if you installed the power plate or hemco and take the boost to 16-17 then you just gained a honest 15-25 horsepower.

Of course if you like running racegas all the time, im sure you can get away with more boost and timing.. and the power plate or hemco will aid in equalizing out the air to all cylinders with that setup too.

Try and buy one used, if you dont like it, sell it

Quick Question what wold it take to bet an 03 Dodge Viper? Is it possible to do with stock heads and turbo? I am pretty sure it can be done with a ta-49 turbo right? I know the stall with what ever I would do to it would have to be changed but what else will have to change? (dad don't think i can get there with out doing some serious mods to the car  ) but i do wan't to keep it stock looking so no front mount or really big turbo even thought that would make it even better :D no frame notching for big slicks just a good set up to bet that viper and not hurt the car or its value after all it does have 35000 miles on it :D

I watched a race on tv last night, it was a 03 viper vs. the new ford GT

Best the viper would run was 12.5 at 120
Best the ford GT would run was 12.3 at 128
I believe that is what their times were, and these werent driven by professional drivers.

If your only looking at a 49 turbo, THDP,orange stripe convertor,009 injectors, methanal kit. That combo should easily get you into the mid 11s but your dads viper will gain on the top end. You might be able to get 117 safely out of it, but with tires mid 11s should be attainable.

If you get a 61 turbo, your mile per hour will rise and hopefully the et will drop... Definitely will hang with your dads viper with the larger turbo.

he took his to the track once it did a 12:7x at like 117 but it spun the whole 1/8th mile literally. and it was his 1st time to the track. so i know i could bet him its just the question of how much would i have to do to my car and not hurt it but not spend tons of $$$ either after all i am only 17

I would add a Dutweiller neck for the stock intercooler also.

is it possible to do with a stock turbo or not? if it is how long do you think it would last running like that? if possible i would rather not use alchy or meth injection i would be willing to run some racegas though. :D like to keep it looking as stock as possible with out spending to much $$$
