any benefits on a ta49 blue top 93 octane setup with a stock engine? have some audible knock in 3rd gearwhen boost creeps up around 17.5-18.

Maybe , if the knocking is from a lean cycl(#5 or 6),
If you are "hearing" the eng ping or knock back off.
You need a scan tool ,before you get anything else .
The scan tool will allow you to tune the car for little or no knock ,before you can even hear it.

If u hear the knock is usually a lot!!! Dont run the car until this is figured out. The P plate will help with this but it will not cure it all. Get a control of your boost 1st. 17-18 psi is too much for lots of cars especially depending on the gas quality in your area and engine condition.

Alchy inj. will easilly handle 20lbs of boost:D I have a PP ordered, should be delivered today:D . With the alchy and the PP I should be able to run 23-25 lbs with 94oct.

i haVE THE engine out of the car now, and it had decent amounts of carbon buildup, so i am going to clean it off and maybe smooth the combustion chambers and the pistons. the turbo was leaking oil from the compressor wheel (114K on original turbo i think) could that cause the knock? as soon as it knocked i'd let out of it and the internals of the engine look fine. i have access to a tech 1 scanner, but is a scanmaster worth having in the car? or would a knock gauge be better? should i replace the knock sensor while the engine is out?

All the things you mentioned will cause knock. But so will what i stated above.
Now for the scan tool. The scan master is a "Must" tool. Ive never been a fan of knock gauges. Whats the point of seeing some little light light up? I want to know and reference it to a number. That way u know exactly how severe it is. Also the SM does so much more.

Usually knock sensors dont go bad.

Good Luck
