Which should I use for tuning/monitering during a wot pass? How do I switch back and forth?

when driving always run scanner in road mode only! To get it to road mode once you are in the main menu hit 1 then 4 then 9.

On my OTC4000E, I can't get into Road Mode if I want to record/playback a run. I wouldn't think you could on the 2000 but I could be wrong.

Yes you can. I can't remember here at work what the key sequence is but, you can and MUST run the OTC4000's and 2000's in Road mode. You MUST ALWAYS use Road Mode if the car is moving!!!!! Diagnostic modes sets certain timing and other defualts that would be detrimental to the engine's health during normal driving and ESPECIALLY if going WOT.

I just went out and tried it again. Still no road mode for record/playback. From the main menue, I can hit 4 for record/playback, then 1 for record, 1 for Data Stream. After I select Data Stream, it asks for which ever item I want to monitor (if any), then I would hit Record. Now, to get into Road Mode, I hit 1 for Data Stream, 4 for ALDL menue, and 9 for Road Test. Dave-if you have a 4000E or comparable, I would like to know what I am doing wrong. I probably made 10 runs at WOT in "Record" mode (not Road Mode) and haven't damaged anything yet, to my knowledge. I put on new spark plug wires yesterday and car has never run better. New wires seem to have fixed a couple issues I was having. Thanks for your help.

Hopefully I have it written down somewere in the case, I'll check when I get home. I can't go from memory, because I put the 4000E away over 6 years ago when Scanmaster and Direct Scan came out.

That sounds familiar. I seem to remember a couple of simultaneous F9's in the mix somewhere, but not sure. I so remember that, like Scott's thing says, it's an undocumented procedure. I wasn't able to locate any of my notes. I've had the 4000E put away for so many years, there's nothing left of my notes, just the original manuals.

After getting it started and in test mode it asks for Mode XX. If you select 0mode it gives the main menu and then you can select 9 for road. It is a pain in the butt.

Went for a run today. I learned a few things. Yes I was in Road mode this time. HIghest TPS got was 2.87 volts, in frame 3. In non road mode, highest TPS was 4.17 in frame 7. In Road mode, IAC was accurate at frame 0 which was .33 . In non road mode, IAC was too high, like around .66. O2 volts were also a bit lower in Road mode. Highest o2 volts was .88 in Road mode, frame 4. Highest O2 volts in non road mode was .90, in frame 5.

I think I will recheck the TPS setting with key on, at WOT, in road mode.

One other thing you'll also have to be aware of using the OTC4000E. It uses a different O2 reference voltage, and because of it, you'll need to subtract approx. .100 from the reading you see to translate it to what ALL other scan tools see.

Thanks for the info, Dave. I went out and checked my TPS in road mode with key on (engine off) at WOT and it did reach 4.11 . I guess I just didn't have the pedal to the metal on my last run.

Dave,
With much respect, this is not what I noted.
I relied on the OTC4000 for a few years and still use it as it is easy to carry for a "quick check". It has a lot of positives as it is "multi-vehicle" capable.

Anyway .......... Did some research a while back on this very O2 subject .... O2 reading on the OTC is right around .44V with the key on, engine off.
More importantly, it matched the reading on DS (+- 0.02).
Therefore, based on my findings, I relied on the OTC readings as "accurate".
Does this make any sense or is it another link in the long chain of gremlins in my junk?

That's not what we saw the last time it was checked. Of course the last time I checked mine was when I was using it back in the early 90's. Maybe they've changed something since then? I was, back then, a well documented and well known fact that the OTC4000 did not match any of the then available scan tools pertaining to the O2 readings, because of the internal reference voltage that it used/uses.

Strange ............
