Well, I guess the engine is coming out of the car. I believe that the cause of the intermittent smoke is rod knock, and also oil blow-by of some sort. No metal shaving or flakes in the oil yet, which is good. An engine rebuilt is unavoidable @ this time, so I am open to recommendations as to how to go about doing this rebuild. I was told that Jasper sells rebuilt engines which come ready to be installed and I just send my engine back in as core. Anyone ever buy one of their engines, and if so, what do you think of them? Anything in particular I should pay attention to during the rebuild?

TIA....

Rod knock won't cause the blowby you're talking about. Maybe you hurt a piston? Either way, I've heard to stay away from Jasper. More than likely you will get a NA crank from them and I've never heard any good things about them. You could post this in the general tech as I'm sure there are people who have dealt with them first hand.

Basam, Sorry to hear about the car.

Your best bet for a new engine is to talk to Jack Cotton, he knows what he is doing, and he will not point you in the wrong direction.

DON'T BUY:

Jaspers engine's
or
Recon engines.

As Cool 84 said the Jaspers motors sometimes come with the NA crank, and the Recon motors are thrown together just like any chebby motor.....

Do it once, and do it right the first time!

I have seen a jasper motor with a 30/30 cut N/A crank so stay clear. Call Jack Cotton, he is one of the few that has never let me down.
