Anyway sure way to tell if a rod is going out other than the noise? I hate ripping into things without knowing for sure what is wrong. I've eliminated the supercharger. My gut feeling is it's not the rod but don't want to start taking the top end apart without knowing for sure. The dealer wants 150.00 bucks to run diagnostic on the engine, I've fell for that before and been misled. Thanks

Are you sure it's not the Supercharger's coupler, found where the pulley snout bolts to the body. Mine was pretty noisy, worse than lifters. I found a kit on Ebay with lube and everything for under $50.
Have you run it w/o the belt to the supercharger?

Another knock noise I had was the harmonic balancer was coming apart, badly. And would make noise without any belts on. That was like $127 and had to search locally to find it that cheap.

Mine is a Series I though, obviously...price may vary.

If you believe it's still a rod;
-Start it, put it in drive.
-Hold one foot on the brake, and mash the gas.
-A rod will usually get louder as you increase throttle.
If not look elsewhere.

I've ran through a bunch of test but unable still to know for sure. I do know it's comming from timing chain end. I do get a change in sound when shorting the #1 cylinder spark to ground. I'm now just going to pull the pan and see whats laying in the bottom. I'm now looking at something going on with cylinder # 1 and I know it's not in the top end. I'll let you know how things workout.. Thanks to those who are replying.. Parked for good right now!! lol
