Which one of the Rotella oils still contains the high zinc formula? I have read a few posts conflicting one another. Some say that they no longer contain the high zinc while others still swear by it. Im confused!

Rotella, even the T, is going the same way they all are, lower and lower zddp.

i use a comp came break-in oil as zinc additive

you can use zddplus too

I recently switched to Joe Gibbs Hot Rod oil, which is supposed to have high levels of zinc for flat tappet cams and a special formula for "storage." It's a $60 oil change, but ........

The zinc has been pulled from all the oils you can buy off a shelf for some time now. The levels are way too low for flat tappet cams! So if you can buy it in a parts store odds are there is not enough zinc no matter what brand. Rotella T came out with a new looking bottle over a year ago and when that bottle came out the zinc seemed to have come out as well.

I now use Brad Penn oil with half a bottle of ZDDP in all my cars when I change it. Welcome!

Comp Cams also sells a "break in" oil that is loaded with zinc that comes in different flavors like 10w-30 - 10w-40 etc. You can run that straight and it has plenty of zinc in it. I think Comp came out with this new "break in" oil for guys with flat tappet cams to keep them happy. They can not sell it over the counter due to the high levels of zinc. If someone dumps that in their new vette the cat will have a heart attack from the zinc. But our cars love it. I've used it and it works well. The only reason I use Brad Penn is I can but it locally for a good price.

COMP Cams: Engine Break-In Oil: 10W-30 (1 Quart)

Hi,
Oil is like blood,it has it's individual characteristics. I have been using O Reilly's house brand 10w-30 since I built my motor 2 years ago,and a dash of zddp on each oil change. Shell makes it,and it is api rated,so I don't feel that I am risking anything. All the current oils are much better than what we had in the 70s. They just need a little help from stuff like zddp. Time marches on,as we all know. The API stories fill volumes,no doubt!
