Does anyone know what the minimum is that I can turn the stock front rotor to?
Planning on getting them turned on the brake lathe tomorrow but don't know what the minimum spec is.

Rotor Dia. 10.5"

Lateral Runout .004"

Thickness variation .0005"

Rotor Thickness MAX. 1.043"

Minimum Thickness after refinish .980"

Discard Thickness .965"

Discard dimension is supposed to be cast into the rotor, wear dimension and not a refinish dimension. Probably should say .965 on it.

Never looked for that on a stocker. :confused:

As an alternative and maybe not much more $$, I just bought new ones for $35 each from Napa. Depending on the miles it might be a good time to replace the wheel bearings also. A set of ceramic brake pads would finish the job nicely:cool:
 
Rotors

I ended up replacing them with the Bendix rotors from Autozone. They were $50 each. The wheel bearings looked good, so I put some fresh grease on them. It looks like the pads are about half gone, so I don't guess I need to replace those quite yet. The only problem I see is that the stock pads don't want to stay put in the caliper, and I think the pads are not quite true to the new rotor, so there is just a slight rub as the wheel turns. I guess it will smooth out. Should I replace the pads anyway since I have the new rotors installed? Car has 70K on it.
Any recommendations for new brake pads?

I use Morse Ceramic pads from Autozone on both my cars with stock rotors. They have excellent stopping power and hardly any brake dust. Does your pads have the cailiper piston clip on the back of it? Until you get the brake system running again, the pads won't push up tight against the rotor. One thing I noticed with the ceramic pads is they took a couple hundred miles to seat on the new rotor, and the wheel was really heating up.
 
The pads do have the clip on the back. I don't understand why you say that "until I get the brake system running again, that the pads won't seat." With new rotors, should I replace the pads even though they are not completely worn out?

Until you get the car back on the road and pressure in the brake system and caliper, the pads won't be as tight against the rotor.
 
ok, got that. will be on the road this evening. and is it necessary to replace the pads since i replaced the rotors?

No you can use the pads you have. The ceramics are about $45.
