My car has been down for 3 mths and may be for 1-2 more during the rebuild phase. I made sure to top off my SMC tank and stored it full off car in a box in the trunk. I'm alittle concerned about the alky pump being idle for this extended period of time and wanted to try and jump pump (run it) off car to ensure the pump gets some usage and that all will be well once the car is back together. I have the old style SMC round bottle with the RCA female jacks on top. If I have some RCA home stereo jacks can I do this straight off a 12v battery source? Will I need a ground source? Any and all advice greatly appreciated!

If you have a heavy duty set of RCA jacks you can run the pump with 14/16 gauge wire for a while.

I'd use a 10 amp. fused jumper wire to a battery and make sure the wires are attached to the jacks well, I solder mine.

Some of the heavy duty car stereo gold plated ones can work for a test cord.

Obviously a spare cord can be obtained from Steve at SMC that can be used for testing purposes also.

The battery itself has + and gnd on it so you don't need any other wiring or connections than those two.

I believe the center post is + on the RCA jack, make sure you plug it/wire it into the pump jack not the low alky. jack.

thanks!

Thanks Alan! That was exactly the info I was looking and hoping for. Now, to find those spare RCA jack cables!

Dont let the pump run dry.

Polarity will be indicated by the color going into the connector.

Thanks Razor. Yes, I know not to run it dry and always to keep it submerged. :)

test jumping worked great!

Took the short RCA pigtail to battery (out of car) and touched center pole from pump to +. Took a short jumper ground wire from outer casing of RCA jack to -and pump worked well. At least this gives me peace of mind that the pump is still working with the car/ pump dormant after several months. Thanks!
