Yesterday my wife and her father were doing some test driving. They stopped at a Subaru dealership to look at some Outbacks and all because the wife wants something for 'when the baby comes'. My father in law always hears me talking about GNs but has yet to go for a ride in mine and see that I'm not foolin' around. Just the same, the salesman at the Scooby dealership is trying to talk them into a turbo Forester..........my father in law smiles at his daughter and asks Mr. Salesman, 'How does this thing compare to the Buick Grand Nationals?'. The reply was, 'No competition, this thing will waste those cars.' LOL When the wife came home and told me this I was about in tears.

My neighbors kid has a WRX with big spoiler on the back and a fart can...I pulled out on the street behind him and he slowed and I rolled up along side him. We pulled up to a stop sign and he started reving his engine. I smiles and we both nailed it..I left him by about 5-6 car lengths. When we pulled up to the next light he rolled down his window and asked me what kind of engine I had in my car...I smiled and said a "little V6"! He came over to my house the other night and I showed him my little V6, he scratched his head an asked how much money I had put into the car, I told him it came that way stock from the factory. the expression on his face was priceless..

Boy that is like comparing apples & oranges.

We are talking a 18 year old car vs a new.

In handling/ braking /funtionality the subaru has the edge. Anybody would know that without asking a stupid sales dork.

In some cases I have seen the wrx's run the same times as stock gn's.

Again this is a apples & oranges post. If you took any 87 scooby vs a GN then it would be a more fair compare. Like lemon & orange. :p

Did the salesman tell you that Outbacks and Foresters are the number one choice of car for lesbians/dykes everywhere??? Just a thought to consider unless your wife thinks you'd look good scooting around in a bubble gum blue Miata...

you may be interested to know that a recent C&D road test the Turbo Forester 5 sp ran a 13.9 in the 1/4..............just about what a stock GN runs (if it is running well.....)

BTW, this is faster than a WRX and can be attributed to the fact that the Forester has the larger STi engine (2.5L vs 2.0)

Welp, I'm ticked. The father in law just said he'd buy the wife a WRX STI and she said no.....she needs 'something practical.'

Not sure what the performance stats have to do with it. It's still an ugly lesbie car. Besides, half everything runs high 13's/low 14's these days. Just cause they like their hair short and wear sensible shoes doesn't mean they don't like to go fast.

Next year they are going to put the that engine in the Legacy wag. My wife's GT is a very nice practical car. AWD is perfect for New England winters and the GT has a great handling package. The wagon is useful for her since she does craft shows. She likes to hot rod around which it's not that great at but is does take off ramps fast. It is down on power especially with the air con on but if they can make it go as good as the Forrester she'll get one for sure. At lights she says, "I like to be ahead of the pack" as she gets the jump on the light. If she gets a turbo next thing she'll be bringing up to NED:)
