Is it a requirement to run premium fuel in these engines on a daily basis in normal driving environment such as driving to and from work? Is spark-knock a problem with these engines in the stock form?

How durable is the supercharger for the long haul? Will this component last as long as the 3800 engine will? I know alot of 3800s have seen the other side of 200,000 miles.

C'mon guys. I thinking of buying one of these for a daily driver. Is it that stupid of a question?

Not a stupid question.

I run 93 all the time. For every day (non boost) driving you could go lower but then you'd have to be careful not to put the pedal down too much. (I can't do that)

Some stock cars have knock at the top end of 2nd gear at WOT. Each one is different.

The SC should be fine for the life of the engine. There is a poly coupling that wears out. The gears and rotors are pretty solid.

Thanks for the reply mcad_c. I drove one of these the other day (a Pontiac GTP) and was impressed with the pull over the standard 3800. I wasn't expecting as much. I had driven a 2002 SC GS a while back and it didn't pull like this Pontiac did. The GS seemed to feel like a standard 3800. I wondered then if the GS had a defect.

It is not worth the risk to not run at least 91, but the engines and superchargers are very reliable. Knock is generally not a problem in stock form, but every car is different. If you are planning on keeping your car stock and you always use premium, they are great daily drivers and perfect for beating up on ricers and stock 5.0's when you need to.
