SC ws6 could this be possible?

I ran into a guy at the gas station that had a nice looking ws6,we started talking and he said it has a 8# SC on it and it was dynoed at 400 rwhp, and asked if my SS was fast:mad:.I knew there was noway I could beat him,the ones that aint SC I barely beat ,but I asked if he wanted to run he smurked and said yes. Were going down the road side by side maybe 25mph and he says go and punched first:eek: he's got a car lenght ,then I slowly pull to his bumper and then crreep to his door then I was locked ,we get to the light and he couldnt belive I was that close me either, were going to the track soon,I wanna race him from a stop maybe it'll be closer ,do you guys think he was SC I really didnt hear anything?I'll know when were at the track,oh yeah I only had 18#,maybe 20# and some 110 huh.Does this mean my car is close to 400 hp or is that guy full of sh#!?

Prolly a kit

There are quite a few kits for those cars, (2500 bucks) but none came from the factory that I know about. - T

Well since you didn't mention what year WS6, I can only imagine it was either a Formula or Trans Am from the late '70 through 2002. I am reaching here, but if it was an LT1 ('93-'97) with a surpercharger making 8# of boost, I would believe it in a second. I see guys running around here with LS1's with heads, cam, intake, headers and exhaust running anywhere from mid 12's to low 13's. There are so many people that "tune" their car with their wallet that a true 12 second street car will completely annihilate virtually anything being driven in traffic. I know there are cars that come out at night that are quick, but I rarely see anybody driving anything that actually runs good numbers on a daily basis.

If it was only 400 to the rear wheels with a SC running that much boost, it was more than likely an LT1. A blown LS1 makes a lot more than 400 to the rear wheels. But reading your story, it sounds like either he wasn't supercharged, he had problems, he can't drive, or whatever. Personally, looking at your trap speed in your sig and the details of your story, I don't think he has 400 to the rear wheels. ;)

While not an LT1 expert, I know a few things about LS1's. A stock LS1 here in Ohio (lower elevation) will run anywhere from high 12's to low 14's. Seriously. It depends on the track and the driver. My car (6 speed) 100% stock went 13.2 @ 106. With an air lid, catback exhaust, and drag radials, it went 12.585 @ 111.60. I now have a cam, full exhaust, and a most of the LS1 bolt on's. I make a lot more power than I used to, but my stock clutch doesn't like it all. ;)

Oh yeah, and nice race! :D

I don't want to be a d!ck or anything, but I think you might have forgotten a couple of mods on that 111.60 trap speed run. It's an honest mistake, I do the same thing. We have 3 LS1s in the family. The '99 Z28 (non-SS) ran the same exact speed (13.2 @ 106) bone stock. It did not pick up 5 MPH with an SLP lid, exhaust, and sticky tires. If memory serves, it might have been close to 108 on a cooler day with those mods. 5 MPH is a lot to pick up with those mods.

Nice car. I love the non-TA WS6s. My brother is "stuck" with a TA WS6 'cause you couldn't get the Formula WS6 in '02. He's wondering what to do with it next - it's bone stock right now and every time he gets in the GN he says "I want this kind of power". He's torn between heads/cam and a SC. I see you've gone the heads/cam route. Is it possible to get through emissions that way? I think some of the SC kits are 49-state legal (or were at one point in time).

Oh yeah - good kill. As others said - a blown LS1 would probably have mopped you up. But, you may have gotten lucky.

LOL, I love it when people don't believe me. Happens all the time. ;)

I'm not BS'ing, it was legit. Also keep in mind that this was done at Norwalk, OH (a great track, if you've never been there) and in 45 degree weather (great for making power). When I ran that 13.2 @ 106, it was done in 85+ degree heat in the middle of the summer at a much lesser quality track. I always wanted to see if my car would have run 12's bone stock. Oh well... :D

BS'ing is a little harsh - I wouldn't accuse anyone of that ;). Hey, it's your car you would know. Seemed like a big jump, that's all. At 106 your car would've run 12s bone stock so at least you know that.

I got a bud with a 00 WS6 automatic that runs 13 flat with a 3200 converter and a airbox lid. Those LS1s are indredible. Makes me want to bolt a blower on the LT1 ;)

Sean, don't lie, your car sucks. :p

Actually, I would love to have taken it to the track 100% when the weather was a lot cooler, like in the 40's, not 80's. Regardless, my car has always been a freak... :D

I'd like to chime in on the Buick - LS1 comparo, given I own one of each.

First off, I believe the 111 trap speed with some bolt on's for the LS1. I went 109 with lid, headers and 4.10's and I'm certainly not the best six-speed rower out there.

MPH is a funny thing, I remember being door to door with a ZR1 Corvette when my GN was going 12.0. I recently was shocked to see my LS1 inch out a ZR1 from three rolling races (from 30, 40 and 60 mph), then I remembered that at the time I was going 12.0 in my GN I was only trapping 109 mph.

There is also a noticeable difference in an auto-LS1 and a six-speed LS1 when it comes to MPH in the 1/4. Most LS1's I see trap 101 to 103 with an auto and 105-108 with a stick.

I'm with turbo jimmy on believing wease's numbers. There is no way that car put 440hp on the ground with a cam, full exhaust and the bolt on's. Either you forgot to mention the head work or the 150 shot slipped your mind:D If it's true I'm very impressed! Those pesky LS1's are tough for sure! I've got a buddy with a cammed& procharged 99 Z. He put down 440hp on 5psi. He now runs 7psi and that car is like a roller coaster ride. Most impressive car I've ever ridden in!

Like GNXS, I also own one of each. My best time, in the Z, at Sears Pt(Infineon) was 13.3/106 on a cold night with a good reaction time and 60 ft. time.

However, I'm a terrible 6sp rower.
