Anyone using Auto Enginuity?

I'm looking for a new scan tool for my shop, and have heard some good things about it PC based one from Auto Enginuity. I currently have a Generic OBD2 scanner, and an older MT2500 brick.

I used the OTC Genesis at the last shop I worked at, and I thought it was okay. Before that, it was a MODIS...I liked it, but the price is outrageous, and the update schedule and costs are asinine. I'm trying to stay away from Snap-on because of this.

What are you guys using, and how do you like it?

im using the otc genisys.....I love it but, only 5 months use and ive had a memory card failure....
i can say even though i bought my scanner used, otc sent me software at no cost...so overall thumbs up....
ebay otc ;)

I'm a GM tech, I bought the Genisys for my home shop. I think it's the best bang for the buck.. There are a few things I don't like about, but overall for the price, good scanner. Snap-on yea right!!! Put you in the poor house! You'd have to charge a 50.00 hook up fee everytime you use it! Scanners are like computers, outdated before their a year old. Alot of the new GM vehicles are done with a lap top and a MDI module hooked to the car. Phil.

I miss the good ole tech2

The thing about the Modis is people only use it as a scantool primarily, they have no clue about its real use. I would like to have it just because it has 4 channels for graphing, for GN's a graphing meter can be your best friend......and a snap-on "brick" helps too.

SD2 and SD3 here, but it must be attached to an Italian car....is will do almost any other make in a generic mode.

I can get you one for $26k.

is a Ferarri obd2 compliant? ie; can a scan tool read one in generic mode? ill take two sd3's:tongue:

OBDII....sure they are.

A genesis or any other for that matter can only read readiness codes for emissions.

Ferrari doesn't want anyone in their cans.

The SD2 is similar to Modis and has as many if not a couple more diagnostic features. It is live linked to SpA in Italy. When you hook a newer car like the 458 to it, it automatically connects to the factory and loads any new updates to running software. We can live-share with tech support in Jersey and dual troubleshoot. Neat stuff.

I started with the red brick on my first Buick.

I have a Modis at work and at home I use the mac mentor and the brick if needed. The Modis is great but the updates are crazy expensive. The scope and database are amazing. If I was going to buy a scanner today I would go to usatoolwarehouse and buy the genisys. I would not buy the scope with it.I have used one and I did not like it.It was to slow. Auto Enginuity is pretty cool. I have that stacked with karmann we and vag com on a laptop. there are lots of bidirectional controls available on on all three. I have heard launch is pretty sharp also. In the next five years if your scan tool is not pc based It will be outdated. GM, Ford and chrysler factory scan tools are all pc based now. Check out Bosch's new scanners too. They make alot of the factory software now. good luck

So you like the AutoEnginuity? I can't decide if I want to buy it or a Genisys. I've seen some pretty good package deals for the Genisys, scope, TPMS tool and smoke machine. Don't really need the scope as I have a Vantage, but if it comes with it...

I don't see to many Euro imports, so Domestic and Asian would probably be good for now.

Just can't decide. I hear what you're saying about PC based tools, I just don't know if I want to drag my laptop all over the shop.

Anyone else?

I like the auto enginuity but Get the Genisys. Dragging the laptop around is a drag. We have a rough book mounted on a roll around cart. There are a lot of smoke machines out there.I went with the redline machine due to it uses baby oil instead of a $100 bottle of special oil. I never used the new tpms tool that otc has. That one requires 4.0 update. The older one Is a piece of crap. I bought the bartec 400. Shop around on that tool I seen guys pay $2600 for the bartec . I got mine through midwest tool supply for $1399. If you do get the genisys with the scope It probably will not be loaded. So just sell the scope on ebay to recover some cash. good luck
