Just to make sure that i understand, You cant run a scan tool on the 84 85 ECM? This is what i have heard and i just want to clear it up. Also how well worth it is the 8687 ECM conversion. Harry

On my 85 GN I used Turbolink but it was very limited as to what is monitored. I swapped to the 87 ECM and it was well worth it. One reason is that with the 87 ECM TLink monitors much, much more. And now you can use other monitoring software or scanners that you could not use with the 85 ECM. Another reason is with the 87 ECM chip makers like Eric Marshall have a lot more to work with and can burn you a much better chip. I'd say the ECM conversion is a very good idea. It is very simple to do, and is not much $$. All my stuff was from either this board or the salvage yard, not counting the chip. I emailed Turbo Tweak (Eric Marshall) and gave him all my specifics, and got a couple killer chips soon after. There is enough info on this site to do the conversion, and I may even have pics of some of it. Hope this helps!

Thanks Squid. The reson i am asking is i am rebuilding the motor and i figured that i should upgrade the ECM also. I really need to have a scan tool on this thing when i fire it up for the first time. Thanks Harry

Great idea. Don't make the same mistake as me and break in a new motor, drive, etc without a scan tool...
