scanmaster 2.1 working right?

I've been having an issue with my GN. whenever I push the gas to the floor it has no power and black smoke comes out the tailpipes. whenever I start it up it blows black soot out the exhaust as well. I bought a scanmaster 2.1 and hooked it up. all the readouts seem to be okay but on the MAL setting it shows 00. is it not reading anything because there is nothing to read or did I not hook it up right. I spliced the white wire to the orange wire like the instructions said.

Your Scanmaster is probably working correctly. It sounds like your MAF took a dump.

yeah I thought that too. I bought a new MAF from Kirban and put in on.....same problem. So the scanmaster wouldn't recognize if the MAF is bad??
