scanmaster still reads 2.1

bought a used powerlogger at norwalk,installed the unopened chip in my scanmaster and it still reads 2.1 . shouldn't this read 2.2 when updated? the chip was still in original unopened package.

Usually the chips have 2.2 hand written on them with a marker of some sort.

got it fixed,it was not an updated chip like it was supposed to be
