screen assembly , governer, how important?

I just put the pump back on my trans, and after i torqued it down, i noticed in the box was the screen assembly for the governer. a little plastic cone shaped screen. in the ATSG it is part #233 on page 62.
do i need to take the pump back off and put it in place, or will it be ok without it?

that is not a governor screen although it is also used for the governor in a th 400 .that is a tcc solenid screen.,and its a subject of debate among rebuilders whether to keep it or chuck it.i always put them back because it stops junk from sticking valve and solenoid.www.ckperformance.com
