My car was sold at deal in late 86.

How can I find out the actual build date to see
if it was a late build.

look at the door sticker (usually will state a month and year)

but if you want more go to www.gmcanada.com and you can order the history on your vehicle (if they still have records) mine was a US vehicle but GM canada is the only with access to these files.

Mine was Born October 26, 1987

If you're feeling adventurous, look behind the driver-side door panel for the build sheet. It'll have the build date and various door-related RPO codes.
