ok guys heres hte prob i am having all of a sudden. i had my new tranny installed last week thing was working awesome shifts nice and everything. wel i go to put it in gear and it wont go up it just slide like nothing is attached. so i look at at hte top part of the cable at the center console it has the wires all frayed and hte cable inside wont slide down the tube to put it in gear. so i go back to the place they give me another one and i put it on and 2 days later while putting into park it frays again and breaks. am i getting the rights one? when the cable leaves up top by the ocnsole it takes a sharp turn then goes down the the tranny. it looks to be way to much of a turn and the cable housing isnt strong enough? can i bend hte cable holder to make it less sharp or someting? anyi deas on this one im fustrated, thanks

Does the plastic covering on the cable look melted??? Check to make sure all the ground wires are hooked up on your motor...If some of your ground wires aren't hooked up, your electrical system may be grounding through your shifter cable and melting the plastic covering causing your cable to bind and/or fray and break...

I know, it sounds crazy...But believe it or not, that was a big problem on some of the late 60s Camaro's, I think it was...

Also, make sure you are using the GM shifter cable and not an aftermarket one...The GM shifter cable is a much higher quality cable than the aftermarket ones...

FJM568 has the right idea - I have heard of a few people having their cables fry because of bad grounds on the engine block. As far as the positioning of the cable, it should make an S shape when installed, with rounded 90 degree bends at either end.
