Shipping transmissions

What is the preferred way to do this? Put it on a pallet? Find a nice cardboard box? I imagine it has to go dry and what shipping company should I use? I have one that will be going from MD to Boston, MA. Anyone?

I used Central Freight lines (last August) and borrowed a regular tranny shipping crate from a local dealership. Shipping data is:
Weight 165/ Class 85 . Cost was about $65 one way,and the miles was about 85.
