I just noticed that the downpipe is just about touching one of the collector pipes on the passenger side header (right near where the downpipe exits the elbo on turbo). Is this normal? Could a bad engine mount be causing this?

It will cause false knock. I used a turnbuckle between where the DP meets the converter and the frame to pull it off the manifold.

Are to saying your DP is touching the pipe exiting the front cylinder on the passenger side?

OEM elbow?

OEM DP?

I have THDPs on my cars, so I can't say how close the OEM DP comes to the manifold. I can say that the THDPs are nowhere near the manifolds.

Going by memory - the OEM DP has a flange that connects it to the OEM elbow - the flange slips over the DP and is free to rotate, to provide the necessary clearance. Maybe your DP is misoriented? If so, take the 2 spring loaded bolts loose and rotate the DP as necessary.

To answer your second question, I don't see how motor mounts could affect this clearance...

:)

Thanks for replies Stikeeagle and B4black! I will take you advise strikeeagle and loosen bolts to down pipe and readjust. I kinda thought it wouldn't be motor mounta, as both the DP and the manifold are connected to engine and should move in tandem with the engine. Makes sence!
