I am using an smc kit which I bought 3 years ago, and since then I have always been using 95%ethanol 5% water and this has worked great for me. I was told by steve not to us any methanol in his kit or my warranty would be void because the methanol would be to hard on the pump. I am wondering as anybody tried putting any methanol in the smc kit? If so did the pump let go and did you see any performance gain? How about if you put 50%methanol and 50% water, would that be less harmful for the pump? I heard that by going 50/50 it is equal to having 124 octane fuel, could this be true? If I can't put methanol in the smc kit is it worth converting to a kit which could handle the methanol? Could I run more boost and timing as if I was running race fuel and see better performance gain. Sorry for all these questions but I would be thankful for any replies.

Thanks
Marco

The issue with water has to do with the style of pumps used. And the issue with methanol also has to do with the style of pumps used.

To run water mix through an older SMC kit is going to ruin the pump. Just like running methanol. Some can get away for a while... but not long term..

Steve has external pumps that are better suited for the mix your contemplating on running. Or revamp your system.

To run big boost you have to increase the alcohol.. How much increase..thats a car by car thing. In the 500 RWHP range.. you'll be flowing quite a bit.

Thanks for your reply Razor, and I would like to have your opion. If I would run 24 lbs of boost as I am running now with the 95/5 ethonol/water %, would I See any difference in performance just by running methanol keeping the boost and chip the same. Anyways right now I would't be able to run more boost because I am limited with the injectors that I am running and the alky on my kit is at the max.

thanks

Evil666, you wouldn't happen to be the Legendary "Street Light Terror" from Montreal. I've heard stories about that car of yours. I have some friends from the Mustang club who tell me that to this day you have never been defeated by a mustang at at street light. I was told that car of yours comes out of the hole like a Bat out of Hell. :D If this is true, hope you will be well prepared this summer. I hear there is this Bad Blown Mustang heading out your way. They call the guy King Kong!;). He will also be running on some Methanol.

I try and be politically correct :)

To run higher boost and higher timing levels you need to increase the amount of alcohol sprayed into the motor.

If your car is at 24 PSI and not registering any knock..switching to straight methanol may make a teeeeennnie amount of power.. but the knock guage is at zero.

Now you want to take the car to 28 PSI and bump the timing a few degree's.. refer to my second statement ;)

Add nozzles, increase pressure, etc..

PS.. work on getting your MPH up.. seems a little low for a high 11 second car. What was your 1/8 MPH. I bet like 90-91. Your leaning out on the top.. but my Buick Crystal ball doesnt always work :D

I monitor my car with the otc 4000e, and my 02 's at the traps are 87-88 with 1-3kr. My fuel pressure with the vacuum on is 43 psi and my smc alky is set to the max speed, which is 10 on the control box. The track I go to only gives the 1/8 of a mile ET but doesn't give you the mph, so I wouldn't be able to tell you the mph that I run. I was told to try and lock the torque convertor with a switch and I would get better mph and lower ET.

Thanks for the replie.

a big part of the low mph, is the tire. With those tires, he's cutting pretty decent 60's. So he's getting a pretty good amount of et out of that combo to run in the 11's at 114.
