Should I go further with this car?

I do have a scanmaster in it.

So I could start with Alky kit and some TT injectors and chip. See what I have and move on from there. It would also be a little easier on the wallet, as I'd like to do shocks and rims. Where is the best place to buy bilstiens.

Also good point on the knock sensor. I'd also like to know where to get an audible one. I usually watch the scanmaster.

Thanks for all the info guys! I ended up buying the shocks today from Summit. They had the AK series which is the older model of the HD series for $49 each front and $59 each back. They are the same shocks just updated part numbers apparently.

Good deal at $235 total. Next will be the Alky kit. Razor - I will be calling you!

Stock setup is pretty good for what it is. Don't bother with an aftermarket ic, stock turbo is good for 23psi on meth injection. Get the stock configuration in good working order first. Vac lines are a big one. Any cracked headers need fixed. Yeah it's only got 27k on it but it's still a 27 year old car. Keep it simple, go slow and you'll be happy. Me and Polzin just had this conversation earlier this evening, stock appearing cars are fun. You see modded ones every day, but how often do you see a stocker that is well maintained with tasteful mods that runs hard too?

Understand that somewhere down the "MOD" path you will probably blow up or damage your engine, cam, trans, etc then your low mileage stock value is gone. Also be aware that there are still probably hundreds of super low mileage stock non-modded GN's out there. It's just money and there is nothing quite like a quiet fast big street car that surprises a lot of people. Have fun.

I will be moving ahead with this car and making it what I want. Bilstiens are here, alky, chip, probably injectors next. Then we'll see what we have and decide from there. Wheels to come too.....if the wife lets me that is.

you can always unbolt the stuff and return it to stock. I would suggest that you get another uppipe off the board so you don't have to drill a hole in your nice original one. THere are ways to hide the alky kit also, just takes a little creativity

I agree. There are some very nice original parts on that car. I would definitely modify used parts instead of the nice looking ones.

Chip and injectors go together, if you change injector size, gotta change the chip. FYI

I would also consider a powerlogger to go with your scanmaster. A much faster update rate on the scanmaster with it. I think about 20 frames per second of memory serves me correctly. Also gives you the ability to integrate a wideband O2 sensor and display readings right on the scanmaster with your knock readings. I have found this to be a very valuable asset while tuning. Also can display boost readings as well as a lot of other readings the stand alone scanmaster doesn't. And lastly, and most importantly datalogging with the use of your laptop. I run this setup myself, and have had really good results with it. Good luck, sounds like a really nice ride you've acquired.

If it's flawless...bubble wrap it and store it. You purchased this car because it is the baddest car on the planet!! Bolt-on items can always be returned back to stock. If you can resist the temptation of a vette or mustang next to you and don't want to "spank it," don't upgrade. Get the Scanmaster or Powerlogger 1st!! It's very easy to blow headgakets on these cars...ask me how I know...lol. Enjoy!

I've gone down this same road since I got my car last year. It was almost completely stock. Definitely install alky before upgrading the turbo. Mine ran great with the stock turbo and alky. Get an rjc boost controller and rjc powerplate. Turbo tweak chip and injector combo, at least 42lb injs. I'd also recommend a 160 t-stat, alradco radiator, and spal dual fans. Biggest problem I've had so far once the car started making some power the transmission kicked out the governor spring twice within two months. I had century transmission fix the spring issue and install a shift kit, along with a stall converter.

I don't know if I'd say flawless. It is a good example of a low mileage car. Original paint in good shape - bumperfillers are hazing, no cracking around windows etc. Since its not totally stock and untouched, I'm probably being a little unrealistic about the effect of what I want to do on the value. Scanmaster is already on it.

Update time:
I have the shocks and Alky kit sitting in the trunk waiting for it to warm up. I have been trying to get in touch with TurboTweak to figure out what chip and injectors I need; can't seem to get to their forum. I don't have an email or phone number either.

The wife has approved my next purchase though......CCW Classic 18" in chrome. Can anyone help with chip and injector recommendations? Also, anyone in the Akron, Ohio area interested in helping me set this all up and tune?

Just do 60s and a turbotweak chip. Won't ever have to pull injectors again, unless you go e85

That's odd. When I try to get to the forum on my pc is no go. On the iPad it went through.

So 60's are what I should go with? I assumed 43's, but if the 60's won't hurt I guess why not.

I'll get with Eric tomorrow and order them up.
