Just got my Shurflow pump and it has a big red sticker on it that says "not for use with flammable liquids".

Not exactly what I wanted to see. Does anyone have in insight on how safe it is to run pure alky with this thing. Has anyone heard of a mishap?

Also, I was thinking about running it somewhat like a fuel system; with a return and a boost referenced pressure regulator. It would only turn on under boost, but the pump speed would be constant. Has anyone tired this approach?

Is it really safe to let the pump go dry? Should I throw some Koltz in there.

It's not safe or good for any pump to run dry.

Shurflo is a different design however and will last a lot longer in and out of fluids.

I tried mine direct from Northern out of fluids, and there was still some water in it from the factory test I assume.

If the alcohol won't kill the thing a bit of lube shouldn't either. I may use a capful to a gallon in my setup shouldn't hurt.

As for the warning sticker, I gotta take mine off after I install the system. ;)

I've been using mine for over 3 1/2 years with no problem and no lube. These people, Shurflo, just don't want to be liable in this sue crazy country not that their little label would make any difference i.e. SMOKING MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH . I'm sure if there have been problems, we would have heard about it on the board.

No lube..its plastic. Petroleum can damage plastic...alky cant.

You do need lube if it was a steel roller vane pump like an efi pump.

As far as your return idea..probably more complicated than its worth.. If you boost reference it, it will only increase marginally with boost pressure, also dont know what regulator your going to use thats "alcohol" compatible. Alcohol will eat aluminum and rubber. It wont if the rubber is special like teflon or viton.
