To all who are running a Shurflow pump, I am planning on tossing my Ford pump since it won/t hold up to methanol and putting a Shurflow pump and a 1.5 gallon tank in the trunk. If anyone has a like system, do you have a check valve in the system anywhere? Details please. Thanks

I have a 4 gallon fuel cell in my trunk and have my shurflo next to it but lower. The line goes through the trunk floor all the way up to the engine. I don't have a problem with siphoning.

If you are mounting yours in the trunk I think it depends on what nozzles you use. I use the mcmaster-carr M10 but I also have a m15 in there in case I ever need that second stage...

Lee I also will probably go ShurFlo when my pump dies, but they are designed for water and not alcohol. I would not use methanol and make sure you use a good lube.

Is that a mis print? Water or gas. I use plenty lube. I went through 2 Ford pumps last year.

Sorry, my mistake, I am talking about a Flojet. I was at a performance parts show in Indy recently. Flowjet had a booth there. Talked to one of their reps. Also picked up a book. Part # D7135B7011--High pressure --Buna Valves-- Buna Diaphragm --- Polypropylene body----100 psi switch--External bypass----ports 3/8 npt female--12 volts---amps. 10 max.

Application
Water or Alchol injection
Brake cooling
Oil cooling
System flushing
Differential cooling and fluid transfer

I guess my ? is will I need a check valve right after the pump to keep the system pressurized between the pump and solenoids.

I've had conversations with the Shurflo techs in their east and west coast offices and have been assured of total compatability with Meth and just about anything else you could possibly want it to pump. I sure hope they're right cause my pump just arrived Fri. As far as needing a check valve--NO. I have a similar Shurflo in my travel trailer and it will hold pressure for months (really).

USING MY ONE GALLON, UNDERHOOD, OVERFLOW BOTTLE AS MY METHANOL/WATER RESERVOIR, I USE A CHECKVALVE BETWEEN THE RESERVOIR AND THE PUMP, AS PER STEVE MONROE'S INSTRUCTIONS FOR DIY ALKY KIT.

The purpose of the check valve is to prevent siphoning when the engine is under vacuum, not maintain pressure.

If you're using a solenoid valve in a system like Lee Thompson described, you don't a check valve anywhere.

I have 2 solenoids near the spray nozzles (dual stage system). My concern is, with the pump in the rear, will I need a check valve just after the pump to keep the line somewhat pressurized so there is no delay getting fuel to the nozzles when it comes on?
Thanks for all the replys

Not with a shurflo pump. It has a pressure switch built in, so the line is always pressurized. I have a pressure gauge on mine.

I've had a Flowjet for about 3 + years...no probs...running 50/50 denatured/alchy. I've used alcohol for about 10 years...and the pumps would crap out just about every year.

The Flowjet is about 3"x 6"...a real monster pump. I have it on the frame near the cannister on the driver's side. I wired past the 100 psi switch so it'll pump even higher ( per Steve's suggestion). Except for that, 4 Aquamist jets, two stage, and a bigger tank it's SMC's. I like to be able to mess with the tuning from inside the car, which for me is necessary whenever the weather changes 10 or 15 degrees. I've had other homemade setups (different pumps, jets, tanks, etc.) and so far this is the best combination I've had.

I run 22lbs of boost with 93 octane...0 KR.

I run a check valve, even though I don't think it's necessary, between the pump and the 1st stage. HTH

Can I jump in here?

I'm contemplating building a home made kit and I was thinking about the EFI Ford Pick-Up pump, my local parts house has them with a lifetime warranty for $75.00. Now, that being said, is the general concensus of Alky runners to stay away from the Ford pump? Or is it O.K.? - BB:confused:

pump

Don/t know how it will stand up to alky/ water. I do know mine would not last very long (6 mo.) with methanol.
