Hi

I have this single flowmaster exhaust. What is on there is pretty bad and needs to be replaced and I was wondering who may have this system and what do you think of it?

Thanks!

You mean you have one laying around, and the one on the car is pretty messed up??? If that's what you men then yeah the flowmaster is probably better then what you've got, but by FAR not one of the best choices out there.

If you have the cash I suggest the Hooker system, you can get it from summit perf. or Jegs perf.

If you're broke, by all means put it on, it's got to better then stock.

i have one. Compared to the super restrictive one i love it, I got a super good deal on it, otherwise i wouldn't have got it, as i'd much rather have a hooker or atr setup. I'd REALLY like to have a 3" mandrel bent dual with magnaflows, but thats just me dreaming:cool:

but definatly put it on, took me 30 minutes since i had some problems getting the stock one off. a little hint woudl be take some corse sandpaper and try to shave a little bit off the male ends of the pipes, then test fit it all outside the car, its a really really tight fit stock, do that and you'll be fine. and it sounds pretty good too, i liked my leaky stock exhaust sound a bit more, but this definatly sounds good.

Thanks Denn454

Yeah I am going to put it on, I need it. Everything forward of this system is "OK" so it will have to do for now. I was doing a mock up last night and will definately have to sand the pipes down. I did manage to get 1 on fairly easily.

The muffler has a bracket on it, does this bolt to the body? I mean do the bracket go "UP" into the body? I really haven't been underneath to have a good look yet.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I had the same FM piece on my car when I bought it. The only good thing I could say about it, is the fact that it's better than stock. I did manage to go 12.9's with it. However, as good as Flowmasters sound, they are not the hot tip for turbo cars! They're designed to work on an exhaust pulse, which is irrelevant on our forced induction cars. They are a lousy design for our apps.
I too have switched to the Hooker Aero Chamber system, and really like it! Sounds good, but quiet until under a load. Easy installation! Very economical!
We'd all like an ATR stainless system, or the equivalent, however, some of us don't have money trees, therefore we have to go with the next best thing.
One other suggestion, if you think you can get away with it--- I had an '86 GN with a completely stock system, that when the muffler rusted out, I just removed it completely and paid $50 to Meineke to weld on stock appearing pipes on each side. It sounded distinct (a little loud, but not bad), and certainly performed better than the stocker or even the Flowmaster. Just something to consider...

Yeah....I have a single flowmaster which I had installed when I was a little less patient (still working on that.......). Definitely better than stock but as others say not the best for turbo applications....looking back I wish I had saved for the hooker system.

A friend of mine just put on his type the ATR 3" with his $800 in xmas money....the thing is freakin loud inside the car, the drone would get to me.

Also another GN owner I know removed the muffler entirely as described above and it is quieter than the ATR. Can't get much less restrictive than that...I guess it depends on your tolerance for noise (ie, daily driver or occasional terror....):D Chris
