Alright, today I added a PTE44 .63 housing, 50# injectors and a PTE custom chip. After getting everything in working order I took it out and set the boost at 16#s. Well it won't get out of its own way right when I punch it from a stop. When it hits about 11 or so it kicks in hard and pulls like mad. I am running tuner style due to a broken y hose, could this cause slower spool up since it is all about the spring pressure in the heavier duty actuator. It does have the bigger puck. I rememer slower spoolup when it was tuner with the stock turbo, but wasn't sure if that was a figment of my imagination or not. I have a 12" light blue/green convertor from bruce(1 up from the orange GN convertor and 1 down from the 9/11) that stalls about 2700 on 3#s and the footbrake. So I know the convertor isn't the issue. Fuel pressure is 42#s with the line off and everything seems great other wise. Thanks for any advice.

Pop the down pipe off and check the carbon trails of the wastegate puck over the wastegate opening. See if it covers it perfectly or is leaking. Yes, tuner style will also make it spool slower. Also see if it's running fat when it spools up. The TE-44 I had on my GN spooled full boost in a snap of a finger so something isn't right.

Tuner style hookups can and often do cause slower spoolup.
You have to keep in mind you have no solenoid in circuit to aid in moving some of that boost pressure away from the actuator housing.

It doesn't take much boost at all to start opening the actuator. Especially on a standard duty actuator. Opening the puck even a small amount can dramatically slow spool up.

Altering the ramp up voltage on the stock solenoid is one of the tricks used to aid in quicker spool up. (opens the solenoid MUCH faster, thus moving some of the boost away from the actuator).

Thanks a lot guys, I messed with it a little and its doing better, but still not lightening fast, I am gonna get the little y peice that I broke ordered on monday, and hope for the best. Who says you won't feel the difference from a stocker and a 44 under 18#s. This is aweome, it pulls like a freight train, I can't wait to tune it better and up the boost to 18#s or maybe a little more(Houstons 93 seems to be pretty good) Thanks a lot

Quick question? You mentioned the HD actuator, if you did get the HD actuator, this would definately cause the slow spool up you're seeing if you are turning down the boost below 18psi. Basically, when you try to lower the boost on a HD actuator below the springs' static pressure, you are effectively opening up the puck from the get go. Thus creating a slow spool situation. I would tune for, and turn the boost up to 18psi, and see how spool up is then. If you still have a problem with the boost set at 18, then I would start to look for a leak in the headers, or at the 3 bolt flange.
Hope this helps a little.

Patrick,

Question: Does the TE 44 you all sell come with the HD actuator standard, or is it an extra, or by request only item? Mine is a tad sluggish too untill it gets moving, so I wondered if maybe I have the same problem. Runs like CRAZY once into boost. Just now starting to get it tuned, but the numbers are encouraging. Low 800 02's with pretty much -0- knock on 112 Sunoco. Running in the 20 lb neighborhood.

Normally, all of the turbos come with the standard wastegate when ordered with one. A heavy duty actuator is only done when asked for specifically.
Hope this helps.
